The Akita Shinkansen between Morioka & Akita, is a “mini-shinkansen” meaning it was converted from a narrow gauge line and is built to much lower standards, including level crossings, etc., with much lower speeds.

The line still offers local service, with a small fleet of standard gauge, 701-5000 series 2car EMU’s.

This video was taken through the Driver’s cab window, on the late running 1536 hrs local service from Shizukuishi to Morioka on 31 December 2014
