Koyasan (高野山) is the headquarters of Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism and was established by it’s founder Monk Kobo Daishi Kukai.

In the ancient times, women worshipers were not allowed into the Koyasan. So, women’s worshipers had to offer their prayers from the outskirts of Koyasan. Nyonindo (女人堂) is one of the temples which was specifically built to cater to these women worshipers. There used to many temples like this on the outskirts of Koyasan but now only one of these survived. This is also located on the public transportation route into Koyasan, so you can hop off your Nankai tourist bus and visit this temple.
