LAS TERRENAS: WALKING TOUR| SUPERMARKET |SHOPS| TRAVEL VLOG 2023. Join me as I walk through Las Terrenas. I start out from the Popy beach area, where I am staying, and walk along the beach promenade to the inner city of Las Terrenas . At the end of the walk, I show you the inside of Sirena Market, a large, one-stop, air-conditioned supermarket. It has everything you need! Credit cards, no problem.
Along the way, I highlight shops; restaurants; “pacas” which are outdoor used clothing shops; typical inner-city scenes; Claro shop, a telephone and internet provider, and types of taxis available.
Las Terrenas started out as a small fishing village. Now, it is a busy, multi-cultural, multi-lingual, cosmopolitan town, where Spanish, French, Italian, English, and Creole are spoken. In the 70’s and 80’s ex-pats from France began to build houses here, and later, Italians moved here. The range and number of restaurants is amazing; French, Italian, Dominican fishing shacks converted to quaint, family-run beach front restaurants, and more.
The town is also popular with Canadians and Americans, many of whom live here 6 months a year. Currently, there is a building boom, with new apartment complexes and hotels being built to meet the demand. Depending on where you are staying, you will hear construction noise.
