Today’s video is a tour of where I live in Sasebo! I live on base on Hario which is a housing complex about 25 minutes (driving) from the Main Base.
This video is aimed towards people moving to Sasebo soon to help give them an idea of what the housing here looks like. It’s less than glamorous, but I will say I’m very happy here on Hario and enjoy the house that I am in. I have some pretty amazing neighbors and while Facebook might make it seem like the community is less than ideal, I personally have never had any complaints.
If you are moving to or live on Hario already be sure to join the Hario Community Facebook page where you can stay in the know.

As I mentioned in the video we did have an option to live on or off base and at the end of the day we picked Hario because we were able to not only move in much faster than had we picked off base (10 days!) but we also have a backyard for our dog, which is definitely harder to find off base here in Japan. The reason I stress how quickly we were able to move in is because the day after we moved into our house Jason left on deployment. For me it was important to try and tackle everything we would while he was still around so that I wasn’t left with the stress of doing it all on my own. This was one sacrifice I was willing to make and I am SO happy that I did. It was only a few weeks later that COVID hit and things got a little crazy here!
I don’t feel like I need to give a disclaimer here (as it is obvious haha) but I am clearly NOT an interior designer. We made our house and “homey” as possible and have pretty minimal decor. It’s challenging to decorate when you move every 3 years and never know what type of house you’ll be in. Moving so much also tends to deter us from buying anything too expensive because we always worry something might break during the process. I hope to eventually be in one place for longer than 3 years and trust me I will be live out my best Pinterest dreams when I do!
If you are interested in seeing some floor plans for the various Hario housing units then check those are here on the housing page:

If you want to read more about housing and fill out the paperwork ahead of time (this is NOT a waitlist, you cannot get on any sort of waitlist until you are physically in Japan) then check out this link. The paperwork is available to download at the bottom of the page:

Hello ma’am,
I am really enjoying watching your videos. My family and I will be moving to Sasebo by the end of May of this year. We are family of 5 . My first born is 15, second is 12 and the third is 7 years. I would love see a townhouse video on Main base to see if they are nice like Hario’s houses. Thank you so much for your hard work.
I really appreciate your videos. I grew up in Sasebo and I've been itching to go back and visit. You can even see my old house (Ume Tower), from your backyard. If you get the chance, try the Steak-don Set from Shoya (near Daito) or the Milk Bread from the bakery in Sasebo Train Station.
Just found your channel after moving back to the States from Sasebo a few months ago. When we first moved there in 2018 there wasn't much out there in terms of info such as what you're putting out. We loved our time there and I'm getting somewhat sentimental watching your vids.
Keep up the good work! It's a great resource for all those on their way there. Be safe, and enjoy the rest of your time there.
*We also lived in Hario and frequently said to each other how lucky the folks were who lived in the houses by the baseball field were when April rolled around. Very weird seeing that you live there!
Thanks for this video, family is being stationed there soon. Did you bring your washer and dryer with you? Hubby and I are trying to figure out what to sell and what to keep.
My younger sister used to leave there year 2001-2006,me & my brother as well.
Oh my missed living there. 😍
Was at Sasebo '87 – '91. Lived on base, but stood watch at ground floor apt. at Hario for Branch Med Clinic.
I grew up in Sasebo … I miss home we lived on the base as well so many memories seeing this THANK YOU
How much is rent for you unit? My husband just found out he’s getting stationed there and your videos are very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. We are headed that way in about 6 months and finding videos like this has really helped calm my nerves!
My dad is choosing his reenlistment soon and this is one of our choices lol! We’re currently in NAS Lemoore, one of the worst bases to be stationed in by far
How did you put up shelves?
Your video is so smooth and easy to see everything- well done! Love it!
Could you do a video about the process of moving an animal internationally?
My father was stationed in Japan in 1994. We lived off base for a few months until a there was availability in HARIO.
We used to watch the fireworks show every night from the nearby Dutch themed amusement park. Overall, it was a great experience. I was so young I may have took it for granted. Thanks for posting this ❤
