    certain areas in CT after 6-7pm or anywhere in ZA for that matter is a different story. Got mugged clean 4 days in (just my luck – carried passport to buy cheap cell phone, CAD to show locals, backpack, wallet, camera everything) few meters from the subway at Jo'burg coming back by sharer taxi from Soweto – Mandela's/Tutu's houses. Jo'burg anytime during the day is sketchy. The cops are blind to tourists, much less to the locals – wasted 4 hours till 1am to register a case – purchased bus pass at CT with 80 ZAR loaded, few days later checked at the bank machine it's clean – opening a case was futile due to lack of vac time. I still went on with my vacation to Kruger park & CT after all this. Wine tasting, Cape of good hope, Table mountain cable car, Robben island, CT Waterfront – rivals/better than SFO any day, bungee jumping, visiting elephant rescue, walk with lions, cape fur seals, African penguins,etc. etc. scenery all were breathtakingly awesome – real locals were warm and welcoming – white locals are always on high alert – No time to see Durban. As a brown guy though dressed down, unshaven – was unable blend in with the locals as there are few brown (Muslim), Chinese locals, you still stand out and of course the accent is a giveaway. Los Angeles, Detroit, Baltimore, Cleveland, etc may be a little safer 😊 (sans guns of course)

    It's definitely a bad idea. If you do it at night. Cape Town is also dangerous like Johannesburg. The difference is you weren't in the Ghetto. But yes it is a bad idea if you not careful. I am not saying you are reckless. But Cape Town is dangerous. If you put your eye of the camera people will grab it. It angers me to think that Cape Town is safe it really isn't

    Jermaine. The beach where you are walking is not a swimming area, its a area to launch boats , jet skis and the like. Called Three Anchor Bay. Swimming beaches are further along.
