Narugami Falls is only accessible currently during the winter, and best visited with a local guide. (The stairway down the gorge is broken and dangerous currently- so you can only go when everything is covered in snow.) The location is actually no secret though – it’s right here: https://goo.gl/maps/KSf8kBoeMwR3gVa97

Here’s the Japanese site where you can hire the same guide to go on this tour!

  1. I just love your winter videos!! Everything looks so beautiful and magical. 🙂 Your guide seemed very friendly, too 🙂

  2. Alot of the lakes near me used to freeze every winter which I used to think was amazing, but wow even waterfalls freeze in that part of japan

  3. That looks like such a good hike in. A little bit of danger and adventure always hits the spot. The falls look amazing, thanks for sharing them with us!

  4. This frozen waterfall looks amazing, for some reason I want to jump in the lake. I would really like to live in Hokkaido, I love the snow.

  5. Are there caves there too? I remember discovering a tour you can sign up for that is somewhere up in Hokkaido that will take you to an ice cave that you can enter, and now I need to try to find it again. I might have to look into doing this tour next time I'm there, or plan for a future trip specifically for this.

  6. Those frozen falls look like something out of a fairy tale and I love how the snow looked, as if someone had gone crazy with shaving foam 😉 It looks like you got quite the work-out navigating those slopes in snowshoes, who needs a gym when you can go hiking in places as beautiful as that.

I know way too little about Hokkaido so any video you make from there is always fascinating to watch.

  7. The google maps link shows that it is right next to a road – how far was the hike?

  8. Beautiful winter spot. Would likely look really nice in the autumn with the colours. Too bad the path is closed during the other seasons. Wonder what it would take to repair the pathway.

  9. This is such a great channel. Whenever I need a dose of wholesomeness in my life I pull up one of Quinlan's videos.

  10. I would love to do this while we’re in Japan this winter! Do you know if there are any English speaking guide that do this (I only speak a little bit of Japanese unfortunately)

  11. Hi Quinian , I wonder if you ever been and seen the frozen waterfall of the Towadako Oirase Line. The road should be open soon and It a spectacular series of frozen waterfalls on both side of the ravine if you have not been it worth a visit. Today I was keen for a. onsen so I went to my favourite onsen in Morioka on route 16 only to find it been knocked down and replace with 7&iholding. So I decide to hit Yahaba onsen at their base of eastern foothill. There was a trial head right next to the onsen and I notice the big yellow bear sign warning hiker to beware. Just loving the place. I also visit Workman and score bargains ,a few top quality Tees shirts and a really good snow jacket 3900yen. I also hit K,s to try out the lastest massage chair after my onsen and save a few hundred yen. Just total happiest. I been waiting since 04/04/2019 to get back. I hope you are enjoying you stay in Hokkaido as much as I am enjoy Morioka. Thanks Quinian your a top bloke.

  12. I was wondering where Victor was. He's down in the comments. 🙂

Is there a separate trail for the summertime or is this a winter-only waterfall?

  13. Quinlan,do you know Takatano Yumechan from Rikuzentaka city? 🙂 they just opened Yume house ,would be fun if you could visit there sometime and do a video about it🙃

  14. What a beautiful area! Thank you so much for trekking the snowy lands to share this with all of us. I truly appreciate seeing places I can not go to myself.

  15. It absolutely feels like a fantasy world with these Falls. I mean, the name itself would fit in perfectly with a game like Skyrim 😁 Thanks as always for taking us along with you on your adventures, Quinlan!

  16. It is so stunning and soothing and even more enjoyable to watch this unique experience that just brings so much adventure, soul, and positivity. As someone who had been a big traveler or adventure we might call it, I got sucked into living in the city. This brings such inspiration to get back there and live life fully and with no regrets. Thank you again for sharing this and wish you all the best on your journey 🙂
