You gave your home resort a 69? What an unbiased review. Keystone is probably my favorite Colorado resort. It must be north facing or something, because it’s always super cold. Noticeably colder than the other Colorado resorts nearby. The reason I love it so much is because of the really steep long runs. I got 30,000 vertical feet on Keystone easy, without even trying. I think I could’ve done 50 if I really wanted to be a nerd about it.
And NIGHT RIDING!!
im spoiled from timberline views when theres an inversion and youre above the clouds with distance volcanos popping above them. mount bachelor has super insane view though from the summit though on clear days…
Do Stevens Pass! You will not be disappointed.
I love keystone even though I am a lot younger than a lot of riders since I am a kid
100 dollars?!?!? what in europe its half the price for a twice the size resort
That old guy how stopped you probably is a tar Abel skier
Have u been to any mountains in BC Canada
Such as whistler and the Okanogan Mountains
What happens now in a pandemic with those who have Epic season Pass? If they are canceled or if there is an open mountain?
Im an employee at Keystone, I would love to meet you!
My buddy and I are traveling out to Colorado next month from the Midwest and reserved two days each for Beavercreek, Vail, and Breckenridge with the Epic pass. This will be my first time snowboarding out there and he has been out there skiing before. We ended up not going with Keystone since we heard it was the most family friendly (contradicts what Johnathan says, but could have read wrong) and always packed. I'm definitely no pro and just like going down the mountain without any park, jumps, etc. Did we make a mistake on our reservations for those who have ridden the Vail parks in CO?
I live in Michigan. Just applied to work the winter at Keystone.
I don't live in Colorado anymore, so I'm going to blow up the secret Keystone goods.
1. WINDOWS hike run. When you exit the Gondola from the front of the mountain, proceed forwards like you are going to North Peak. Look all the way skiers left and you will see a catwalk heading into the woods. Gain as much speed as you can and head in there and bomb until you cannot anymore. This is the point where most riders drop down into the trees and ride the tracked out glades of the windows. When you run out of speed, unstrap and keep hiking on the catwalk. After 20 minutes or so, you will summit the hill, and be where the snowcat drops off. From there, you can drop in anywhere and usually get fresh tracks at any time because most people are too lazy to put in the short hike. Watch out for the 50'+ cliff band that runs underneath the Outpost Gondola.
2. North Peak Trees. From the lodge at the top of north peak, you will find a catwalk just to skiers right of it that again heads off into the woods. Take the catwalk for a few minutes and drop any line into the trees (skiers right) . This will drop you in the gully between the Outback and Northpeak. You can lap this all day and usually get fresh tracks on a pow day as well while everyone is riding the blown out mogul runs in the outback.
Enjoy!
I have been skiing for over 50 years, lived at the base of Keystone in the 1990s, and get a Keystone pass every year. Regarding the pass price, it used to be excellent. But the jury is out this year because Vail Corporation imposed some sort of reservation system that may negate the privileges of a season pass. As for parking – it sucks. If you don't get there early the lot fills up and there is no place to park! Instead you have to drive to far away parking and take a bus back. If you are buying a day ticket you might as well not go if you don't get there before 9am. Lack of parking is a serious everyday problem, not just weekends. Maybe reduced vacationers due to Covid will temporarily solve the parking problem, but in the future it must be fixed and is way more important than snowmaking.
The price of food is ridiculously exorbitant. Back in the 1990s a clerk at the cafeteria at the top was sticking her hand in the cash register. They traced it down, got a warrant, and raided her place. As I recall she still had $120,000 in cash left. That gives you an good idea of the cash flow.
Starfire is the best hill. It is long and has a good gradient allowing you to maintain whatever speed you prefer. It faces the Sun more than the other hills at Keystone. Except for a little bit at the top, it is all hill with no runoff putting you right back on the lift. It used to be a slow three chair with long lines, but now it is a high speed chair with short lines.
I live in Breck and Keystone is my least favorite out of the summit resorts. Not a bad thing since they are all top notch
Did they remove the black mark from your pass?
If not , when will it get removed? if ever
Personally i would give an 8 on Staff because I am a kid and most people personally go up to me and try and help me on the lift even though I go to way back and other areas
Riding keystone instead of breck or vail is the same for me as riding devils head in WI instead of cascade or tyrol
love the packers man! great video!
Where do you recommend for 13-14 yr first time ⛷??
Do Vail next
We went start of December and they took my dads epic pass for no reason
Having lived in CO, ease of access is a solid 2 for everything past Loveland. Traffic is horrible on i70 and DIA is in the middle of nowhere
There are some awesome employees at keystone all yellow jackets are jerks don’t base the whole mountains employees off yellow jackets
colorado and the mountain west for snowboarding is some of the best boarding I have done also a mountain I really like is mammoth mountain arizona and idaho are gold mines for boarding
I really like new mexico too
Nice.
I swear keystone is all for money now the employees I've been there twice now the first time there was 1 decent staff that told me to slow down at the end of the run 2 time I was there I got my pass taken for 2 seasons and I was going the same speed as Johnathan buckhouse my employee score without a doubt be like a frickin 0.5 and that only bc of the one guy that didn't do much except tell me to slow down a bit.
Can you do a sugar mountain review.
Just back from Keystone. I thought the greens they had were really good and fun. The schoolmarm is I think 3 miles long and I road it a few times. We spent most of the time on the first mountain doing the blues and greens there. I think for a beginner or novice they could have a great time just skiing on the greens on the first mountain. I skied the back country years ago and it was really fun and had some blacks that I was able to manage. The lodging for us was very budget friendly. About 120 bucks a night for a 1 br condo with a pullout couch at Lake Keystone condos.
You are my favorite YouTuber
Keystone is the GOAT
is it good for people who can do black diamonds with very little effort
So as a tourist, keystone was less than welcoming. The little village was great but the second you hit the mountain, i didn't meet a single employee who was pleasant. Not a single one. Which was really sad. Did the whole mountain went to the midmountain restaurant, and the whole experience was only saved by the fun challenging runs. And there is no avoiding Marm and it sucks because those little yellow jacket jerks have a massive chip on their shoulder. They yell at almost everyone and seem to think they are highway patrol. Id go back once. Wife didn't go and wasn't ready to tackle that terrain, so I'll try one more time someday.
Just bought 5 day pass for 180 on epic
Love the merch man, I am a blue-black slope skier. Have you done Echo Mountain? My favorite is Arapahoe Basin and probably Crested Butte. Keystone is definetly up there.
How about a Monarch review this season? Never been and have heard a lot of good things about the small mountain, love the town of Salida and the people who live there, pretty much all of Monarch's employees are from the town
Hey bro, great video's! Question: which would you prefer for beginner/intermediate skiers 1)Winter Park or 2)Keyestone?
You were breaking the rules and they were doing their job.
A newbie that went to keystone in February, I love their long green runs, but I hates their long flat runs. I had to unstrap a good amount of time….still trying to get good. I would go back.
Here's a hint: can you have more shots of the actual resort and less of you waving your hands around.
I'm sorry you had that encounter with mountain safety hope it got resolved 😢🏂
Still sore about that keystone experience. Cry me a river.
Any suggestions for parking? We're staying off slope and noticed reviews for parking sucked and getting equipment and kids to the slope is exhausting? Can you drop family off close to the resort and go park?
Can you rent lockers for several days? Are there enough lockers to accommodate all that need them or do they run out? Any way to reserve a locker in advance? Can we pay a local to reserve us some lockers and pay him for the lockers and his time when we get there?
Also heard a lot of snowboarders infiltrate the beginner runs and make them quite dangerous?
As a parent and life time enthusiasts I think you’re issue with people actually taking safety seriously is lame. My son was hit last year by a competent snowboarder who had a moment. People ripping on greens are kooks.
