Tsukiji market is synonymous with seafood BUT if you’re not a seafood lover it’s still well worth a visit! There are loads of non-seafood options to snack on- here are our favourites including a secret curry restaurant which is well worth a visit!

This 6 part Japan series focuses on Japanese street food- we’ll share our favourite Japanese street foods in Tokyo and some of the best spots to find them.

We’re Thomas and Sheena, food and travel fiends. We travel full time, hunting for the BEST local food in the world to showcase via our YouTube videos. Food is a window into a country’s culture and one of the most exciting ways to get to know a place.

We’re all about eating what and where the locals eat. You won’t find food that’s been created merely to be social media worthy on here- no rainbow bagels, gold leaf soft serves- just honest food that tastes incredible.

From street food to mom and pop restaurants, we want to show you the best food we find on our travels.

  1. Opposite the Tamagoyaki Shop there is a corner shop called Onigiriya Marutoyo… Sell many different types of freshly made onigri..generous with filling and tasty.

It was good to see Tsukiji outer market starting to get busier but we did notice quite a number shops have still not reopen compared to precovid… Hopefully by this year more businesses will be back

  2. yay, so glad to see another new upload from you guys! ✨ Today I'm inside in the rain so I'll be catching up on some of your old videos too lol ❤️

  3. I know I’m biased. I’ve been watching you guys for years AND got to travel with you, but EVERYTHING you find I want to try and I know it’s amazing BECAUSE of how you guys share! Egg sando from Japan I’ve never had but I can imagine how amazing! Cutlet? Wow! Never been but I can almost taste the food all the time when you guys share!!! I’m still sad I missed you when you came this way last week, but I still feel like I’m traveling with you when I watch your videos! Hope you’re all safely back in New Zealand now and I can’t wait to get to meet your new Chasing a Plate team member Coming Soon! Can’t wait for the next stop! Are you doing more New Zealand stuff in the least up to baby Chasing a Plater?

  4. Hi guys I’m loving this Japanese series, the food just looks amazing. The curry lunches you both had looked so tasty and I love that cream filled dessert you ate Sheena 😍. How’s your pregnancy coming along? You feeling ok?

  5. Another super vlog guys . Happy Waitangi day 👏🌺🌺… northland is missing you 💕🇳🇿

  6. AAAhhhhhhh, tamago sando! One of the things I love about Japanese food (and Japan in general) is the attention to detail; making thin layers of egg and rolling it up into a massive, fluffy, delicious omelet, then fitting it perfectly on slices of bread. An edible work of art! The curry shop truly was a hidden gem, wasn't it? Both plates looked great, and the top-up of curry sauce was an awesome bonus. Lovely video, guys!

  7. I normally don't go out of my way for curry, but that looks too good to pass up! Loving this series!

  8. I can't wait to go to Japan one day, I'll be using your video's for reference! In the meantime, I'm heading to Malaysia tomorrow: KL and Ipoh and I'm so excited to eat all the food . Thanks for another excellent video xx

  9. Wow, everything looks so good! I miss Tsukiji market in Japan 😆 Also, just a little Japanese tip: I noticed you keep saying oishii desu before you eat the food. The word you use for "it looks yummy (doesn't it?)" is oishi-sou (desu ne) so it sounds more natural 😊 as oishii desu only translates to "it tastes good" while you are eating the food😅

  10. I loved this one, guys, and the series at large. It’s thrilling to visit the hidden gems with you, something I just love about Tokyo. And what a day it was — breaded cutlet, mouth-watering curry, custard crème taiyaki. I mean, dayum! 😘🙌 P.S. I hope you had safe travels home.

  11. ok. did u come back ? cause i could not do ALL the food from this vid and the last vid in one day !!!
