*NOTIFICATION SQUAD*
Last several months have been hectic as I had had to travel all over Japan and I could not film videos at all, but here I am back again with some truly useful Japanese language and cultural techniques that you will want to use when you come to Japan. Ryotaro's Shopping channel is also back with Denim Kimono. It is unbeliebably easy to wear and it was somthing wanted but never thought existed. Hope you like it, too!
It surprised me the first time we went to a restaurant and as we were leaving we were chased down by someone shouting at us, bowing and thanking us for coming. Being stupid Americans who didn't know much Japanese, we paused and turned back, thinking there must be an issue with our credit card or something, but the server just stood there waving from the doorway. This one shocked me, is how aggressive people are, but only in train stations. In a country where everyone is outwardly so friendly and polite, the shoving and pushing in train stations caught me off guard. I am tiny, so I was easy to push around and many times came close to falling off the platforms onto the tracks or down the stairs.
nice, wondered about the parking.
Great video! I think adopting middle aged people is the most surprising thing!
I think you are weird! 😉
Salt is common in 'ghost elimination' or as 'ghost repelant' in slavic culture as well 😀
Japan is the 11th most populated country. Yes even to japanese people somehow it's not common knowledge aka bigger than any EU state
These are such cool facts. You should tell Chris these for sure. Your channel deserves way more subs for this quality content
What surprised me more was, apart of the adult adoption, that you used Miki Matsubara's song… you had me singing it for a while!!!!!!!!!
I wonder how much salt is needed to purify Mr.Affable
You should totally appear on Champ's Japanese Kitchen!
I love how Chris' studio is now your background
Reverse parking is logical for a quick getaway and safety when moving off and loading the booth.
To be fair, dating is a team effort for most of the people I know. No, it isn't cultural; they're just weird and/or next level awkward
"Lift with your legs, not with your back" is the funniest thing you've ever said…
Another video I saw said that a lot of gay couples, since they can't be married, will have one adopt the other because it's the only way legally they can be viewed as family
Adult adoption bieng at 90 percent ! Lol whhhhaaat
Thanks for the udon/soba tip
Are you breaking and entering chris studio again?
Rytaro, I always love to watch your videos. I look forward to the next one you make. This one was very interesting, especially about dating and the weirdness.
For the evacuation thing, I was surprised you didn't put Godzilla in the mix. Not making fun, though I am suprised you have to worry about volcanoes.
I've been almost around the world.
Japan is the only place, where i got cold water serve on table…for free.
Subarashii indeed!
One thing that surprised me, that I've never seen any other youtube video talk about, is the high pitched alarms that some stores install right outside their front door to deter young people. It's called "The Mosquito" and it's really fucking annoying, it indiscriminately attacks people who can hear it who are unlucky enough to walk nearby.
I'm calling it ! The next video is going to be an adoption day with Ryotaro!
Nice video as always!
Ryotaro-sama content getting better everytime he uploaded 👌👌👌👌
Fun fact: the local governments are still at it even to this day. There was this one case where they took their Covid relief grant and spent it on a giant squid statue…
I think salt had much the same effect of warding of evil, in the West as well. Just that it's a mostly forgotten thing, over here.
Adult adoption is still mainly for the same reason, as in samurai days: The head of a family run company, doesn't have a decent son to inherit the business, so they adopt a skilled man to inherit the business and, very importantly, have him marry a daughter of theirs. (…which means that it becomes a marriage between siblings… WTF Japan?)
Those local government things, are faaaaar from the weirdest of Japanese stuff.
What surprised me was sitting on a side facing seat on a local train and then having a businessman stand in front of me with his crotch right in front of my face. Apparently facing ones bum towards someone is considered rude but this is not…
Number Zero: Spaniards beat Samurais.

A conquistador refutes the "Metatron"'s video on Samurais VS Spaniards
Fun fact: Chris' Showa-themed set was made just so that Ryotaro can model that kimono for a four-second vintage ad at the end 😀
Huh, I never heard of Aisekiya. Sounds like a neat concept.
As I say in my videos, there are many curiosities about Japan. What surprised me the most is the habit of dressing statues!
You lovely ball of sarcasm
Ryotaro never disappoints, love the style and vid 🤣
While a small thing but everyone parking in reverse actually surprised me, and is totally something I never would've picked up until seeing it up close in Japan.
Also let me tell you, I love your style more and more, these videos have so much humour and character in them. Not even Chris' videos have this kind of unique flavour. Keep them up!
(Also I'm convinced you secretly lived in Chris' studio the past two months he's been gone lmao)
Did anyone notice the background is similar to another YouTuber's background? I think it's similar to Abroad in Japan.
What surprises me most Ryotaro's content doesn't pull in MUCH more viewers. Quality stuff, premium humor. Much like, very yes.
great and fun video and many surprising facts, thank you
What surprised me was that most Japanese crane and arcade games in general are actually rather fair and winnable. There are definitely types of arcade games with prizes that I avoid but there are a few that I can't help but play if the prize is something I'd really enjoy and appreciate. I think I'd take Connor and Meilyne to school with the number and quality of prizes in one of Connor's crane game competitions.
Cuz yeah, currently in Japan for an ALT gig and a place that's close-by seems to updated the prizes at least weekly,
