*-*-* SNOWBOARDING – JAPAN’S HIDDEN GEMS *-*-*
• Tomamu & Sahoro (Hokkaido) | Yokoteyama (Shiga Kogen) •

We recently went to Japan with the goal to snowboard as much as possible. Rather than hitting the slopes on a famous ski range, we decided to visit a number of more local ski resorts.

We started off with Mount Tomamu and Ben’s favourite mountain Mount Sahoro in Hokkaido. This was the first time Bee got to experience her first-ever #JAPOW experience.

After 8 days of snowboarding, we worked our way down to Mount Yokoteyama which is a part of Shiga Kogen ski range near Nagano.

Shiga Kogen is the biggest ski range in Japan with 18 ski resorts linked together. You will only need 1 ski-pass and you will be able to get on any ski-lift and ski/snowboard on any piste in these 18 ski resorts. This area is known as the “Japanese Alps”.

Mount Yokoteyama is home to Asia’s highest ski resort. On its highest piste at 2,307m you can see Mount Fuji with bare eyes when the sky is clear. Unfortunately when we arrived at Shiga Kogen, a windy rainstorm hit and it washed away a lot of the snow off the mountain. The locals said it was the worst condition of the entire season. Nonetheless we managed to do some snowboarding as soon as the ski-lifts were opened, and were still quite blown away with the beauty of the “Japanese Alps”. We hope to be back next year for some real Shiga Kogen chest-deep powder next year!

This is only our quick recap clip! In the near future we will be posting some in-depth review on each ski resort/mountain we visited. Stay tuned! 😉
