Are you going on a cruise and wondering what to wear? Cruise ships so have dress codes and rules for what to wear and what not to wear, however cruise ports of call can be tricky. In fact, wearing some things in many cruise ports can result in theft, fines and at the very least, going against local customs.
This video is great for first time cruisers going on Caribbean cruises, Mediterranean cruises, and includes general guidelines and cruise travel tips for many cruise ports of call. These cruise tips will help you plan your cruise, cruise outfits and what to wear on your cruise vacation, both on and off the cruise ship.

Planning a cruise? Get The Ultimate Cruise Planner. It's a 47 page printable cruise travel planner with packing checklists, shore excursion planning forms and much more! ($10 off for a limited time). Here are the details: https://lifewellcruised.com/ultimate-cruise-planner
Any packing tips for the men in our lives?
My husband was pick pocketed in Italy. Took his cell phone out of cargo shorts pocket.
Just last week we had a large lady in Ocho Rios wearing nothing but a thong bathing suit! We also discovered that Carnival is possibly the wrong cruise company to go with. Too noisy !! Guess the clue is in the title!!
I can NOT stress the point of avoiding political or problematic messaging on T-shirts/Hats/Pants/Shorts etc . It kills the ENTIRE vibe! On my last cruise in January, there was an older gentleman who wore the same political accessory of clothing almost EVERY day , and the looks he got from every one was “really man? Here out of all places?” Even after asking opponents and supporters of the message , anyone who saw him was immediately taken out of “vacation mode” (no one said anything cause he was clearly elderly and arguing with someone up there in age is pointless).
Regardless of people’s beliefs , we all can agree that having a week away from the NON SENSICAL GARBAGE is something we all need and want. Just please , let us escape the real world for a few days . Cruising is the one time where we can get together with complete strangers and enjoy good times without any preconceived notions or biases; Don’t ruin the innocent humanity of it .
Disclaimer
This may come to a surprise for some but Not everything is about you and not every waking second you leave your house/cabin has to be a moment of advocacy or vitriol. Don’t forget to live life a little , it’s okay to just vibe 😌
My husband was pick pocketed in Venice. He had his reading glasses in a case in his back pocket. Luckily valuables were in a small bag tied around his neck inside his shirt. I also was accosted in super-crowded Venice by a woman who tried to feel for valuables in my clothes. She found nothing.
At many religious places (like churches, cathedrals etc.) you have to cover your shoulders, so you should consider that as well 😉
It’s amazing when you get of a ship who,is watching. My husband wears a ring with blue stones and yes it’s a bit sparkly. We got of to go to Ephasis in Turkey and a man ran across the street and grabbed his hand and asked him if they were blue diamonds, he was actually from a jewellery store, it was a scary thing to happen especially from a person who works in the store. Don’t know how this would have ended up if he had been wearing blue diamonds But who can afford them lol
I'm glad you pointed out its illegal to wear camouflage in the Caribbean, especially Nassau. You actually can go to jail if you run into an officer who is having a bad day.
I will for sure wear “ political “ wear… account would be hard not to do…account with many on the left the American flag is political.as well as 2A themed

Very good ,just common sense & being respectful 👍
In Jamaica, you can't take bananas off the ship. Believe it or not, they have "banana sniffing dogs" that will check you before you get very far.
Great video about what not to wear off the ship, I'm a new cruiser and need every tip I can get
Hello dear me again! Political garments, bozo no no. I saw a guy come very close to being beat up on a cruise ship and nearly arrested in port. The ship sailed from Puerto Rico and while he had very strong beliefs apparently he never saw the news regarding Trump's comments to PRs Government. Funny but the crew you rarely if ever see are the security folks. I saw 8 on that ship all at the same time! Old timers like me tried to warn him but no love. You can't fix stupid especially drunk stupid
Flip flops do serve a purpose. Something to wear long enough to get to a store and buy quality sandals. My favorite is REEF brand but they can be $120 US. I forgot my REEFs at home so bought a pair in St Thomas. 40 buck's! Winner! 3 months later I was in Kauai, $160!!!! I should have bought several pairs in St Thomas
Hi Ilana, great video as always.
I would love to see a video about staying safe in ports please.
Have a great weekend :0)
Really good tips!!! Thank you!!
Jew-el-ry. NOT jew-lery
short-shorts in Europe.
I would love an anti-theft video!
I sure miss Donald Trump. $2 per gallon of gas and 1.5% inflation.
Ilana, a rain jacket or umbrella IS a good idea but how do you fit that into a crossbody bag???
Great information. Thank you
I don't bring my nice jewelry, including wedding ring on travels. While in Mexico I bought a pretty sea shell ring for only $20 usd. Its now my go to travel wedding ring. It's cheap so if I lose it not an issue. But its also nice because I get to relive that trip with my husband when I wear it. Its nice to think of the fond memories that we made and great motivation to keep traveling and making new memories.
We don't wear anything with the US flag on it.
Very helpful and true
Interesting however I disagree with the camera comment. A lot of people want to document their holiday in more than just a phone snap way but more a proper photography way. I want more than a phone for my pictures so would have no qualms taking my camera/lenses on holiday. A holiday is exactly when I would want it with me. I’d use my phone as well so my bag will always have a high value. I try to be aware/careful and that’s all you can do wherever you live.
Travelon is my cross body bag of choice. I have a cheap costume ring that I wear when off the ship, rather than my wedding ring.
Personally, I do not like to see armpit hair or back hair on men while eating.
My wife and I recently just bought matching tungsten wedding bands very inexpensive that’s the only things we wear it when we cruise or travel for that matter she leaves her nicer stuff at home
Great info for a first timer
The thing I was worried about the most on shore excursions was my passport, because you had to carry it every time you left the ship. I made myself a sort of belly-belt from lycra and left a big enough gap in the seam to be able to slip the passport, phone & small purse inside. No-one could tell it was under my clothes & I had peace of mind. I never took any 'good' handbags on holidays, but had a cheapish small backpack to carry miscellaneous stuff, including a bottle of water, ashore. Any jewellery was left in the safe onboard.
Men dont wear shorts when planning to go to a church, Mosk or even a Casino
My aunt got pickpocketed in Barcelona. She had her purse on her shoulder, but wasn't carrying it in front of her body. He/she sliced through the bottom of her purse with a blade and got her wallet.
It’s also not a good idea to wear camouflage in the pacific either. Many pacific islands have military coups . Fiji is notorious for their coups – they’ve been quiet for a few years now but they happen out of nowhere.
It is very different between South Beach Miami and Europe. Europe is more conservative and South Beach is much more over the top.
Wearing overtly political clothing is not a wise choice. But as a veteran of the United States military, I will wear my DD-214 T-shirts and Army ball caps particularly aboard the ship.
