► The Bikan historical quarter in the city of Kurashiki, Okayama, was an important city in the Edo period (1603-1867), being one of the key-cities in trading of rice. The canals were built to allow boats to navigate between the city’s storehouses and the nearby port. Most of the buildings in the Bikan District are original and extremely well kept. Today, most buildings are transformed into small cozy cafés, souvenir shops, museums or simply private homes. It’s a great place to go exploring the small maze of narrow alleys, ending up finding the most nice backyard garden, a nice teahouse, or some other small gem you didnt expect finding. – Enjoy!
