On the 25th, snow fell mainly on the Sea of Japan side of the Japanese archipelago due to the strong winter pressure pattern, and heavy snow fell in the Chugoku region, Niigata, Nagano and Gifu prefectures.
Winds blew across the nation’s coastal areas, and the inflow of cold air, the coldest of the winter, made the cold weather more severe. A developing low pressure system is slowly moving northward from the waters around the Kuril Islands, and the strong winter pattern is expected to continue until the 26th. The Japan Meteorological Agency has called for precautions against heavy snow, blizzards, wind storms, and high waves.
The amount of snowfall over a 24-hour period on the 25th reached 93 cm by 8:00 a.m. in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, the largest amount in recorded history. On the evening of the 24th, the prefecture issued a “Meteorological Information on Significant Heavy Snowfall. Oyama Town in Tottori Prefecture recorded 92 cm, Kotani Village in Nagano Prefecture 66 cm, and Hida City in Gifu Prefecture 51 cm by 10 am.
The lowest temperature by 10:00 a.m. on the 25th was 9.0 degrees below zero in Kosa Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, breaking the previous record. Major cities also fell below freezing, with Sapporo at 12.8 degrees Celsius, Sendai at 7.5 degrees Celsius, Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward at 2.9 degrees Celsius, Nagoya at 3.8 degrees Celsius, Osaka at 2.0 degrees Celsius, and Fukuoka at 2.5 degrees Celsius. Kyoto was 3.7 degrees Celsius, with a peak snowfall of 15 cm at midnight on the 24th.
The 24-hour forecast for snowfall until 6:00 a.m. on January 26 is 80 cm for Tohoku, 60 cm for Hokkaido and Hokuriku, 50 cm for Kanto Koshin and Kinki, 40 cm for Tokai, and 30 cm for Chugoku.
Then, by 6:00 a.m. on the 27th, the same snowfall amounts will be 40-60 cm in Tohoku, 30-50 cm in Hokuriku, and 20-40 cm in Hokkaido.
Maximum instantaneous wind speeds expected in Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto Koshin, and Hokuriku over the next 26 days are 30-35 meters. Wave heights will be 6 to 7 meters, including the Kinki, Amami, and Okinawa areas.

25日の24時間降雪量は、岡山県真庭市で午前8時までに93センチに上り、観測史上最多を記録。同県には24日夜に「顕著な大雪に関する気象情報」が発表された。鳥取県大山町では92センチ、長野県小谷村では66センチ、岐阜県飛騨市内では午前10時までに51センチを観測した。
25日午前10時までの最低気温は熊本県甲佐町で氷点下9．0度で、過去の記録を更新。主要都市も氷点下となり、札幌が同12．8度、仙台が同7．5度、東京都千代田区が同2．9度、名古屋が同3．8度、大阪が同2．0度、福岡が同2．5度となった。京都は同3．7度で、24日深夜のピーク時の積雪が15センチだった。
26日午前6時までの24時間予想降雪量は多い所で、東北80センチ、北海道と北陸60センチ、関東甲信と近畿50センチ、東海40センチ、中国30センチ。
その後、27日午前6時までの同降雪量は東北40～60センチ、北陸30～50センチ、北海道20～40センチ。
北海道と東北、関東甲信、北陸で26日にかけて予想される最大瞬間風速は30～35メートル。波の高さは近畿や奄美、沖縄も含め6～7メートル。

Nada Maruyama Park is also famous as a filming location for movies and dramas, and is a scenic spot with a wonderful view of the city of Kobe and the direction of Osaka! It used to be a Kobe Steel baseball field, and you can play to your heart’s content on the spacious lawn.
The promenade surrounding the lawn is moderately shaded and ideal for walking. In the spring, the cherry blossoms spread out beautifully, and it is crowded with people who come for a walk. There is a large compound playground equipment, a long slide, fitness equipment, benches, and a free parking lot for 20 vehicles. Kobe City Bus No. 102 “Nada Maruyama Koen-mae” bus stop is convenient, but please be aware that the number of buses is small.
