Watch Our Bangkok Food Video with Adria and Ester here: https://youtu.be/LB6mDtpoMAg

Our friends, Adria and Ester, came from Spain to visit us in Bangkok over the holidays! It was their first time in Thailand so we tried to plan a really fun two weeks to show them as much of Thailand as possible! We took them to some of our favorite places such as Railay and the Phi Phi Islands to see Maya Bay, however we also decided we wanted to take them to Phuket Old Town and Phang Nga! We rented a car in Phuket Old Town and drove from there toward the famous viewpoint in Phang Nga: Samet Nangshe. As our only plan was to go to Samet Nangshe, we made up the rest as we went.
At the beginning of our trip, Ester really wanted to stop by Phuket’s upside down house as she had never seen one before. Unfortunately we arrived an hour before it opened! Since we had extra time, we decided to try to go to Phuket’s Airplane Beach! We had seen pictures of it, but we had never been before. The plane spotting beach in Phuket is actually called Mai Khao Beach and it was really easy to get to! We arrived at Mai Khao Beach and followed the signs to the parking lot. Once you park it’s actually 2km to get to the part of the beach that the airplanes go over to land at Phuket International Airport! Luckily there are many tuktuks right next to the parking lot that can take you the 2km for 20 baht ($0.60 USD) per person. We were surprised at how frequent the planes were landing! Some of them were as little as 5 minutes apart!! We were able to take lots of pictures with planes landing. There were also lots of street food stalls close by.
After the airplane beach we started driving toward Phang Nga and the Samet Nangshe viewpoint. We were still pretty early and we started to see lots of signs for James Bond Island, so we decided to make another pitstop and try to see the islands! We followed our GPS to a location called ‘Pracharat Pier, Ban Koh Klang’ which had signs for James Bond Island tours. Luckily when we arrived we were able to go on a tour right away! We paid 2,000 baht total ($61 USD) for a private long tail boat. The boat tour was so neat! It started going through the mangrove trees before opening up with views of all the amazing limestone cliffs of Phang Nga! It was unlike anything else we’d seen before!!! The tour first stopped by James Bond Island (Khao Phing Kan) where we had to pay the national park fee (an additional 300 baht per foreign adult ($9 USD)). There were lots of people, but it was still so amazing to see! Next we had the option to kayak through the mangrove trees and limestone cliffs for an additional 300 baht each, but we were cold and didn’t have too much time so we skipped the kayaking. After that we went to Koh Panyee Village or the Pan Yee Floating Island Village! It was another amazing place that we had wanted to visit but never had the chance to before! We were able to eat lots of amazing Thai food for lunch at a restaurant in the floating village! After that we walked around the village to find the famous floating football field!
Finally we returned to our rental car to drive the last 15 minutes to the Samet Nangshe Viewpoint where we were planning on camping! This was one of our favorite trips and it’s definitely a must do if you’re in Phuket, Thailand! We should have part 2 of our Phuket Road Trip up soon!
