Along with Yoichi Distillery in Hokkaido, Miyagikyo Distillery in Sendai City are two Whiskey Distilleries that Nikka owns in Japan. Some of the products from these distilleries have been gaining distinction as world’s best whiskies and winning many awards.

Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whiskey has the distinction as one of the iconic personalities within Japanese Whiskey Industry. He was trained in Whiskey making in Scotland. During his time he married a Scotswoman named Jessie Roberta “Rita” Cowan. Rita followed Masataka back to Japan and has been influential in him becoming the iconic figure in the Japanese Whiskey Industry.

Their story has been created as a very popular TV series called “Massan” in Japan.

You can go to Sendai distillery by taking the train to JR Sendai Station and taking a bus from there. The bus ride is about seventy minutes from the Station.
