D: Maple, we’re finally going to the US next week.
M: I’m so excited to travel outside of Japan.
D: When the Covid-19 pandemic started, the travel restrictions were very strict and you needed to stay in quarantine for several days at that time, but the restrictions have eased recently, so we don’t need to quarantine anymore.
M: That’s great.
D: But we still need to do many things before going to the US.
M: Yes, I’ve checked what I need on the internet, and prepared them.
D: Oh, great. Let’s double check if we really have what we need.
M: Sounds good. I’m a bit worried about weather or not I have everything I need.
M: This is the list for everything we need to get.

D: First of all, we shouldn’t forget to bring our passports and air tickets.
M: Yes, those are important when we go abroad regardless of Covid, right?
D: Absolutely.
Unlike the other countries, the US requires us to obtain ESTA for a trip within 90 days, instead of visa.
M: Yes, you got ESTA for me.
Out of curiously, what does ESTA stand for?
D: It stands for Electronic System for Travel Authorization.
The US introduced this requirement in 2009.
M: I see.
D: Regarding Covid, these are the remaining forms that are required for travel.
Basically, you need to show that you’re fully vaccinated.
D: Also, when re-entering Japan, we’ll need to show proof of the first 2 vaccinations and at least the first booster shot, or alternatively, a Covid-19 negative test certificate obtained within 72 hours of your departure, right?
M: Yes! We’ve already registered on “Visit Japan Web” and received a QR code showing our vaccination status for when we arrive in Japan.
D: I hear that getting this QR code definitely makes the immigration process go smoothly.
M: We’re ready to go to the US now!
D: Yep.
Next week, we’ll take a bullet train from Hamamatsu station and then transfer to Narita Express which goes to Narita Airport.
M: I’m so looking forward to it!
