We are not complainers and we look for the good in everything… but we just could not find ANY positives in this excursion!!! We were all so excited to visit the Dominican Republic and planned a great day at the beach with our kids and our friends. Lori and I went to the excursions desk and booked the PlayaBachata All-Inclusive Beach Day as it had good reviews as an excursion and we wanted an AI resort.

Carnival Mardi Gras pulls into the beautiful port of Amber Cove and we explore the port a little before it is time to board the bus to our resort for the day. Immediately upon arrival, I didn’t get good vibes when they told us to wait in the lobby and gave no other instructions. Finally, a small lady with an even smaller voice who was very difficult to understand comes to give about 60 people instructions for the day. None of us could hear or understand her except that we had yellow bracelets so we were to stay on ‘this’ side of the resort….

Well, ‘this’ side of the resort had no available loungers at the beach… well that were in working order anyway. We found LOTS of broken chairs! The boys used their Lego building skills to take apart the broken chairs and piece them together enough to sit on.

Ok, we have chairs… food and drinks? Service? Nope! No one came to check on us to see if we needed anything… geez us constructing furniture on the beach SHOULD have attracted someone! We found a long line in which we could get drinks… they were ok. But the food… sorry, I don’t eat food with bugs on it!

Needless to say, it was the worst cruise excursion experience we have ever had!!! We were on the first shuttle back to the ship where we enjoyed the rest of the day… and went to the shore excursions desk to request a refund!

  3. This is horrifying. Been burned more than once on one of the "Fun Ships" excursions in the past. Carnival sells these junk excursions because they know they can. They always drill into your head to book their excursions. Try "Mr. Sancho's" in Cozumel all-inclusive vs anything Carnival offers. You get what you pay for.

Btw, love your cute family & your boys are precious! (And you can tell they love their momma)❤ But that resort was something serious! When I saw that bug on the food, GIRL😡 You're a better woman than me, bc there's no way I could have kept quiet as long as you did. Did you get your money back or any perks from it?   9. why didnt you go to the beach club that on the right once you go through the duty free shop? It is out of pocket but they have a lazy river, zip line, bar with a DJ and restaurant. You can rent umbrellas too. We go every time.

  10. We are cruising on the Mardi Gras in 9 days!! I’m so nervous about something going wrong I can not sleep lol. Anyway, we are going to Amber Cove, but truthfully, none of the excursions appealed to me. For the first time ever, we didn’t book any! We may check out the ports because they look nice, but we are mostly excited to see the new ship. My son booked the horseback/zip line excursion with some OBC he has. (We all have a bit of OBC from our cancelled cruise before the pandemic.) That’s a shame your excursion stunk. I hope you also leave a review on Carnival’s website. Sorry such a long post!!

  16. We did go to an all inclusive in Punta Cana Occidental something back in 2010 and the beach had brown water not blue as in the brochure.

  17. Just returned from Marti Gras. From major design flaws in safety, comfort, form to basic functionality, we are going back to the Vista Class. ❤️Vista, Horizon and Panorama:

    This ship is nothing more than a large cargo container ship, the economy of scale only benefiting CCL at the passengers expense.

    Every sing venue or feature simply doesn’t have the capacity to handle the 5300 to 6300 passengers. As a result one ends up waiting, waiting and waiting for everything or so overcrowded it’s simply NOT enjoyable.

    In fact, 90% of our “awake time” on the ship was waiting or giving up on the venue overcrowding, simply way too many people.

    As far as food quality; awful compared to our 50 years of Carnival experience.

    In fact, we all re-named one eating venue to “Sh*tBang”.

    Pictures, videos and plenty of case numbers with Guest (NO) Services documenting massive shortcomings and horrible treatment by the staff.

    If this is Carnival’s future, they will not be in ours and the thousands who stated the same aboard the ship.

    Mardi Gras is a prototype for the Excel class and unfortunately due to the pandemic the November 2022 arrival date of Celebration is a direct carbon copy of the Marti Gras, now 2 horrible dysfunctional prototypes.

    If there are not major redesigns to the Jubilee, all 3 ships will need major refitting’s to compete with the 3 Vista Class Ships and growing competition in the cruising industry.

    The CCL Excell class will destroy Carnivals loyal customer base just as it has done with us and thousands aboard our cruise stating “never again Carnival”.

    Both the ship and the company are NOT the Carnival we grew to ❤️ over our last 50 years with Carnival. As they say, “all good things must come to an end”, Carnival Cruise Line, sadly, is no exception to that rule.

  18. You can just walk round the headland to get to the cruise beach, then up the road to amber cove……the next door hotel the Merenge is actually worse!!

  19. Out of the excursion options, you chose the cheap ones. What do you expect?? Lol. The price was just up your alley.

  20. So were you able to get your money back once back onboard? If not, that says a lot about your cruise company. 🙁
