There is a surge of people who are looking to move abroad for higher quality of life and affordable living. Playa Del Carmen Mexico is one of those destinations. Located in the Yucatan Mexico, it is one of the best places to retire whether that is for early retirement or you are sick of the long winters up north. You can have a happy retirement there. Spend your 401K or Roth 401K or pension plan and see your money go so much further.

Playa Del Carmen 5th Avenue is famous and put it on the map but there is so much more to this small city. Real Estate Agent Susana MacDonald shares her thoughts on why Playa Del Carmen is a great place to retire.

We talk about affordability, entertainment costs, real estate (renting vs buying), safety, community, language, groceries, transportation and food. When I was there I had awesome meal after incredible meal so asked Susana to share some of her favorites – see below!

  1. I'm interested in possible retirement in Mexico in Lake Chapala, Ajijic or Guardalajara. Do you have any information on these areas?

  2. THAT'S the language that they speak?!!!!?? Really?!!!???? They know the English language, and will speak English if you do not understand Spanish… But to say THAT'S the language they speak is just ridiculous!!!!! I visit Playa Del Carmen every year, and everybody speaks Spanish to me.

  3. Thank you so much for this well informed video, greatly appreciated. Can you please tell me How is drinking the water situation in Playa ?

  4. The problem with interviewing a real estate agent is they simply cannot help themselves, promoting what they believe so strongly in, so you're getting a very biased opinion, which almost feels like a sales pitch, but I still appreciate your fine quality video.

  5. Spent 10 days over Christmas and New Year, 10 mins by car from Playa Del Carmen (Barcelo Maya Resort). Outside of our highly secured hotel was absolutely awful poverty. Basic infrastructure is lacking. Internet at our brand new premium room was way too slow. Weather and beaches are gorgeous people are friendly and hard working. BUT, this naturally beautiful region is really just dotted with international wealth juxtaposed on a poor, corrupt, dangerous and dysfunctional society. Such a shame.

  6. such a seedy place, cocaine dealers in every corner, huge tourist trap, always super crowded but the real estate people just want to make money, oh and real estate is way over priced, look in veracruz or tabasco, cost you 80 percent less and quieter

  7. This is not the reality here. The prices of condos or houses are more than in the USA. Groceries are high here.
    Doctors are reasonable here .

  8. México Is amazing. now with the great projects that our federal president is carrying out. many who live in the north of Mexico are going to come to live in the south. you can imagine how beautiful it is and now you will be able to get to know the whole south more easily.
