Join me on my 12 hour layover at Tokyo Haneda Aiport. Note that this itinerary is also valid for lenghty layovers at Tokyo Narita Airport. Typically you can also fit in the Japanese Imperial Palace in Tokyo during a lengthy layover but the palace was closed on January 1st for New Year’s Day.

My Tokyo Airport layover itinerary was as follows:
1) Arrive at Haneda Airport
2) Keikyū Line to Asakusa Station
3) Sensō Ji Temple
4) Ginza Line to Shibuya Station
5) Explore the Shibuya Crossing
6) Walk to Meiji Jingu Shrine
7) Explore Meiji Jingu
8) Walk & Explore Takeshita Street & Harajuku
9) Walk back to Shibuya Crossing
10) Yamanote Line to Shinagawa Station
11) Keikyū Line back to Haneda Airport
Note that the Japanese Imperial Palace + Gardens can also be added to this itinerary during a lengthy 10+ hours layover; however, the palace was closed on Jan 1st in preparations for the Jan 2nd festivities. This itinerary is also applicable to a lengthy layover at Narita Airport as the Keikyū metro lines connects both Narita and Haneda.
People: Japan is hyped up to be a weird country, but it's actually normal!
Japan: Strawberry sandwiches and people casually go Karting in the middle of the street (3:25 lol)
Celebrating the New Year’s Day in Japan must be an experience. Entrance to Takeshita street was too cute. Sounds of Shibuya crossing were my favorite
Representing us Canadians in amazing Japan! 😁 it really is more crowded than I would of imagined whew! The temples tho, wow! For their age they look like they were just built. I am so envious! I would also love to cross Shibuya! Especially during the rush hour.
Hello, What did you do with your checkin luggage? I am travelling from India to USA and have a Japan Transit Visa and want to go out during the layover. Will I need to collect my bags and check them again. Arrival airport and departure are both Haneda with both same airline flights
