Tsumago, a beautifully preserved post town, Nagano, Japan

Tsumago is one of well preserved post town in the Kiso Valley, Nagano, Japan. These post towns were built during Edo Period (1603-1868) along major highways to accommodate commerce and travelers. Many of the post towns were restored during the preservation movement in the 1960’s. Tsumago is one of the best examples of the preservation and is now a major tourist attraction.
