Something bad happened when we left Japan… (quick update)



Our day has come! 😩 The video-maker’s worst nightmare finally happened to us… and it’s going to disrupt, delay, and possibly even cancel our planned Japan and Vietnam videos.

If you didn’t guess already, our hard drive failed :(.
So we’re giving you all a quick summary to get you up to speed until we’re able to (hopefully) work on our Japan and Vietnam videos again!

We’re lucky that some of the files are backed up on a cloud, but way fewer than we had originally thought… and we did not realize it until editing this :(. If anyone has any recommendations for a good data-recovery service (preferably in the USA! :D) we would love if you sent it our way – we do still have the failed drive.

We hope to resume these videos soon, but until then, we’ll see you in country #34, Thailand!

    Losing data can be a shock. I know how it feels to be depressed. I think you had a lot of data because you are the ones who deliver such beautiful images. I can't help you with anything, but I will continue to support you.

    All good…I’ve enjoyed your videos so far and its not the end of the world if you take your time posting (as heartbreaking as it is when you lose footage). Hopefully you find a way to recover some of it…and even if you do a sort of summary style video with what you’ve been able to save i think that that’s a good in between video ❤ have enjoyed the japan series and have been getting some great ideas for additional places to go to that i havent already for my trip coming up this year (omg its this year!)

    What happened to the drive? Like was it an SSD or HDD (spinning disk) one?
    if mechanical, does it still spin when plugged in, or do you hear any clicks. (maybe put your ear on it while plugging it in)
    If it dies spin, but you get some kinda error on screen, then you may be able to recover some/most/all of the data.

    If you use a Mac, Disk Drill is probably your best bet. (can use the trail to preview files)
