  1. I love the Galveston port been there many times before. However did not know that Princess was sailing there now. Big plus

  2. That's some very interesting history on the port of Galveston. I'm very excited to sail round-trip out of Galveston. It's a considerably shorter flight for us to the Caribbean than Ft. Lauderdale.

  3. Hi Allison, adding to my original report. Embarkation in Galveston was the smoothest and fastest ever. The Carnival terminal is an older one and the Ruby was docked directly behind the Carnival Dream. We arrived at 11:00 am dropped our bags with a porter. Security checked our medallions and directed us to screen our carryon. Next a quick checkin of passports. Boarding had just began and we were then told to walk directly to the gangway, on the ship at 11:20. We are platinum and were "green light" with our medallion. Once on board, the cabins were not open, the staff directed us to our muster station and given option to go to the buffet or dining room. As we were eating in the Da Vinci dining room at 12:30 it was announced that the cabins were ready. By 1:00 we had unpacked the carryon. Our Stuart introduced himself as we were watching the muster on the TV screen. Sailaway was on time at 4:30 as all of 2900+ passengers had arrived. The buffet is totally self-serve. Breakfast in the diningroom was not great, second morning we ate at the buffet as there were many more offerings. More comments later.

  4. I’m sailing from Galveston in April. What are β€œthemed” cruises like? I’m sailing the Princess 5 days 80s-themed cruise. πŸŽ‰

  5. We just returned from a 10 day cruise on the Ruby out of Galveston over the New Year. It was a great time! Another bit of information…Texas "encourages" you to declare any liquor or cigarettes that you buy from the ship or the ports of call when you return so they can collect taxes.

  6. For a relatively small island, Galveston has quite a bit to see and do. The Historic Downtown Strand is full of shops and restaurants year round, but for anyone sailing in early December, there is a fun festival/fair called Dickens on the Strand with people strolling in Dickensonian costumes, art, crafts, food, etc. Visit Moody Gardens–a 242 acre amusement park with hotel, attractions, aquarium, zip line and paddlewheel boat. There are many Victorian homes to tour including the spectacular Bishop's Palace, historic cemeteries, lovely little pocket parks, haunted tours of all types, and lots more. Just search "Things to do in Galveston." And of course, a few extra days added to your itinerary will allow you to travel an hour or so north to Houston (my home for the last 30 years) which has too much to even begin to list.

  7. We just returned from our 10-day Western Caribbean cruise (Dec 29, 2022 – Jan 10, 2023) Ruby Princess is a very beautiful ship. The Christmas decoration was professional & very attractive. We had a great time. The crew, food, the shows, etc. were great. Embarkation & disembarkation were easy & very organized although 1 gangway was not operating during disembarkation.

  8. Great vlog. We live in TX and have sailed out of Galveston, and we loved it. Galveston is a nice place to visit. Love the historical district with all the historical homes. And the downtown is very quaint with cute little shops. Moody Gardens is a fun place to visit. The Pier has some good seafood places to eat. Can’t wait to sail out of there again. If you do go, look on Tripadvisor for recommended things to do.

  9. Your timing is great. I'm in the middle of final packing to board the Ruby Princess Sunday. I have lived and worked in Galveston in the past and thrilled to sail with Princess from Galveston. Another great thing to see is the historic 3 masted sailing vessel Elissa. It is docked next to the cruise terminals. If you're driving, you can save a lot of money on a hotel by staying in Webester or League City. All the name brand hotels are there for half the price of Galveston.

  10. We are doing the Panama Canal on Ruby Princess in April out of Galveston. Galveston is our closest port. Nice to see Princess bringing ships here.

  11. Thank you, we are cruising out of Galveston next month with two of our young children (their first cruise). I think we will check out the railroad museum if we get to the port early enough (we are staying outside Houston the night before). The Battleship Texas would be amazing but when I looked up the website, tickets are $150 for an hour tour on the dry dock deck and minimum age is 16, plus a dress code (just an FYI).

  12. Any suggestions to go from Houston airport(s) to the port? I’ve looked online, but maybe you guys have some tips. For me it would be IAH.

  13. where is the major international Airport? How to get to Galveston from there? Dallas- Fort Worth airport
