This road in Otaru is one of Japan’s most visited tourist destinations.

During the 1800’s Otaru was developed as one of the first port cities of Hokkaido. Sakaimachi-Dori is a short walk away from both the canal and Otaru Port.

As of now Otaru is known for its splendid glass works and many glass shops can be found on this road. One of these include Kintaichi Glass shop that not only has wonderful works of glass art but also great food inside its cafe.

The Music Box Museum can also be found on Sakaimachi-Dori where you can make your own music box as well as admire all the premade ones. There’s plenty of seafood restaurants along the road where you can buy freshly caught fish and crab.

For those of us that are more in tuned with our sweet tooth LeTAO is the place to be. Known mostly for their smooth cheesecake Double

Fromage they also have a variety of other pastries to choose from. Sakaimachi-Dori is definitely a must visit place if you’re in the Otaru area!

If you come during the winter you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the JAPAN SNOW! Otaru is also about 45 minutes away from Sapporo so it can be a great place to stay if visiting for the Snow Festival!
