I went to Coco Curry in London to see if it’s the same in the UK as it is in Japan!

Coco Curry is a huge chain of curry restaurants in Japan. It serves Japanese curry rice and katsu curry. The best thing about it is you can customise your curry with various toppings and choose your spice level. They’ve now opened two branches in England, in London. I’ve been to Coco Curry many times in Japan and always miss it so much! I went to the Leicester Square restaurant to see how it compares to Coco Curry in Japan. So here’s my in-depth analysis, comparing the taste, spice levels, prices, ambience of the restaurant and different menu options.

  1. 2 hour couch ride vs 12 hour flight??? haha I actually do this soon, I'll message you on insta if it meets my curry standards

  2. "Is it the Same?" Sadly not πŸ™

I've been there twice and whilst the food was tasty, it didn't taste like CoCo Curry in Japan πŸ™

  3. We've been to the one in London, it doesn't compare IMO. Alright, but nothing like the ones in Japan.

  4. The image for "Bubble fried" looks like there could be rice crispies in the batter. I've seen recipes with that

  5. We did what we called a Japan day in London we went to Coco Curry, the Japan Centre and UNIQLO I still prefer go go Curry if they have those in this country I would be so happy

  6. Interesting to see the changes made to the menu in London, I suspect most of it has to do with the different culture and expectations around curry, since due to the Indian influence it's so common in Britain and people may wonder what's different about Japanese curry. I'll have to compare the two on future visits. You didn't mention it, but which Tube lines are these closest to? Thanks for the video!

  7. The company officially states that it serves the same curry sauce all over the world.

  8. I loved Coco Curry in Japan hope I can come to London soon to try it while we can't enter Japan

  9. I will go to Coco Curry next time I'm in London. Nice video as always πŸ™‚

  10. Haha unfortunately I absolutely love the garlic bits πŸ˜… the first time we went they had feedback cards and I requested they bring garlic bits to the menu but it's not happened yet πŸ˜‚ we do love visiting Coco in London, not quite as good as Japan but some of their additional menu items are good! My partner likes the kimchi in his curry, and we'd convinced ourselves that gyoza was a topping in Japan that I often steam us gyoza when we have a curry πŸ˜…

  11. I wish we had a Coco Curry in Birmingham! Would prefer a cheaper and smaller version than the London restaurant

  12. I would love to try this. It’s exactly the sort of thing I will forget about next time I’m there though. πŸ˜…

  13. I try to avoid London, but if I'm ever there I'll give it a try, no surprise it's twice the price though.

If you ever get back to Japan and like spicy stuff, try Kikanbo Kanda Main Store. It specialises in spicy ramen and is my fave ramen place in the world. Just don't go for the top level of spice unless you're a masochist lol. It's between Akihabara and Kanda stations, real easy to find.

  14. Amy, your level of detail and logical progression made this video delightfully informative! Thanks!

  15. I finally had Coco Curry in Ph last month. It was huge !and it was around 350 php, very good price because you will definitely be full, I almost didn't finish it. The spice scale was 1-10 too, not a fan of spicy stuff so, i just ordered level 1, it wasn't as sweet as the other Japanese curry that I tried. I didn't notice if they offer a more sweeter sauce. It' is good, but I wouldn't recommend this everyday ahhaha. they don't have upside down plants though πŸ™‚ which is a good thing I think

  16. 10:21 I found the little DON sound so hilarious. Made me picture a rabbit with a leaf on its head with an exasperated cartoon sweat drop. Great video! I miss this restaurant so much. Such heartwarming food.

  17. In QLD Australia I’ve found instant single serve packets of CoCo curry sauce in some Asian grocery stores. Two serves per packet and it tastes just as good as in Japan. The London branches are probably importing the sauce from Japan, no cooking from scratch required, and ensuring the same taste.

  18. Im in the US. I saw it when I was in London in 2019. I was afraid to try it because to be honest most of the food in the UK tasted bland to me. I was scared to ruin my memory of Coco's in Japan.

  19. I might have to try this and give it a chance. Unfortunately the smell doesn’t appeal to me as I first smelled takeaway Katsu curry on the night train home where it mingled with other unsavoury smells! Plus as I get older my stomach tolerates spicy food less and less.

  20. Japan had imported curry rice from UK over hundred years ago.
It’s amazing now Japanese style curry exports back to UK. 😁

  21. I can't stop laughing at how plain (posh?) the outside of the Coco Curry in the UK looked compared to the "in your face" signs and advertisements outside of the Japanese location πŸ˜†
