Japan Travel: From Central Sapporo to the Slopes in 30 minutes at the Sapporo Teine Ski Resort, Hokkaido 23 Moopon
Within the many medium sized ski resorts on the outskirts of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Sapporo Teine (サッポロテイネ) is the largest. Located about 40 minutes outside of the center of Sapporo, Teine offers its skies a variety of trails. There are wide, gentle slopes for beginners as well as long, fast courses for advance skiers. This facility has two run which were used for ski events during the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics. Visitors can see the Olympic Torch standing above the resort as a monument for its role in local history.
Sapporo Teine’s trails are spread out over two zones which are connected by a gondola as well as a six kilometer long trail. The upper Highland Zone, for advanced skies, has an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level. The upper Highland Zone has medium to advanced courses as well as off trail runs and a snow park with jumps, boxes and rails. The lower Olympia Zone has wider, less steep trails for beginners. In addition, the lower Olympia Zone has a family park for sledding and tubing.

By train
1. From Sapporo Station, board the JR train to Teine Station. The one-way journey should take ten to fifteen minutes with a cost of 260 yen. There are many trains to Teine station departing from Sapporo station.
2. From Teine Station’s south exit, transfer to the number 70 JR bus bound of Teine Highland. The bus departs from bus stop number 3. Disembark at the ski resort. The one-way journey should take about 30 minutes with a cost of 390 yen. The buses operate hourly.
Note 1: The cost for both the JR train and the JR bus is included in the Japan Rail Pass.
Note 2: For visitors not using the Japan Rail Pass, JR Hokkaido offers a selection of package tickets called Skip Teine. The package includes roundtrip transportation by train and bus as well as lift tickets and equipment rental options. They can be purchased up to the day of departure from select JR ticket offices around Sapporo and Otaru.
By bus
Visitors spending the night in Sapporo may wish to take advance of the direct ski buses organized by Teine Ski Resort and selected hotels in central Sapporo. These buses are usually in operation from early December to late March. The cost of the round trip transportation ticket including a 7 hour lift ticket is 5500 yen. Prior reservations at least 1 day in advance are required.
