Bordeaux is a city in southwestern France, the center of the historical region of Aquitaine and the Gironde department. Bordeaux has preserved magnificent objects of natural and architectural heritage. A significant part of the historic center was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007 as “a unique urban and architectural ensemble of the Enlightenment” (“Port of the Moon”). Nicknamed the “sleeping beauty”, Bordeaux is ranked among France’s many “cities of art and history”; it ranks second in France in terms of the number of historical monuments. Bordeaux has one of the largest protected areas of cultural heritage in the country (150 hectares).
