This time we boarded the [West Express Galaxy] from Izumo City Station in Shimane Prefecture to Kyoto Station in Kyoto Prefecture.
The West Express Ginga is a night train that began service in 2020, and operates with a six-car train formation. The West Express Ginga has “Premium Rooms” in private green rooms, “First Seats” in green cars, “Family Cabins” in compartments, “Couchettes” and “Reclining Seats” in regular cars. In addition, there are free spaces in Cars 3, 4, and 6 that can be used by any passenger, and in Car 1, there is a free space that can only be used by passengers using the Green Car.
At present (as of December 2022), passengers can only board the West Express Galaxy by applying through travel agencies. However, the reservation system has been changed from next year in 2023, so please refer to the website for details.
Since this was a tour, we were welcomed by local people selling local products at the stops along the way. In addition, we were able to enjoy a boxed lunch that featured local products from the area.
