The Adventures in Kansai series is a collaboration between Where Next Japan and Kansai Scene on travel and culture within the Kansai region.
This time, we travelled to the beautiful and spiritual mountaintop Buddhist enclave, Koyasan which recently celebrated its 1200th anniversary. We talked with a monk, and visited the hauntingly pretty graveyard, where some of Japan’s most well known historical figures rest beneath mossy tombs, and check out some… contemporary style graves.
