BACKPACKING PERU πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ͺ EPISODE 11 πŸ“HUANCHACO

Close to the city of Trujillo, is the little surf town of Huanchaco. It has amazing waves for beginners and intermediates! I took 3 private surf lessons at Muchik Surf School who were incredible. I stayed at ATMA Hostel & Yoga who were also fantastic! I only stayed 3 nights in Huanchaco but it was definitely worth it!

FAQ’s
How do you afford to travel? – I now earn a full time living through creating these YouTube videos, affiliate links, selling digital products and my clothing line. I used to simply just work any temporary job I could find to save up to travel! I budget the money I earn meticulously to reach my savings goals using https://www.backpackingbananas.com/product-page/life-budget-tracker-uk-self-assessment-version
Is travelling solo safe? – I would argue the answer is almost always yes! As long as you use your common sense and you follow your own government’s guidelines about travelling in that country. I have made several videos on backpacking safety on my channel.
Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I’m currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I’d love to have children one day. I doubt I’ll ever live a completely ‘conventional’ lifestyle by society’s standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

  1. Had a good chuckle at the massive sign comment πŸ˜‚ Having lived in Mx for several years it is so true ✌🏻❀️

  2. hey there, do you have a job? or do your videos pay for your living expenses? if so, how much do you make from them? thanks

  3. how do u wear ur contacts while in water? bc my optician said to not do that as they dry up if you get water in them πŸ™‚

  4. It can really knock your confidence and you develop the fear when you have a bad one! I'm glad you didn't let that time in Bali put you off. Mama Ocean isn't to be trifled with! I miss surfing so much. I used to live in Cornwall and went almost daily…

  5. Christianne – We have been watching your videos for almost two years now and I have to say that you are one of the best travel vloggers! My wife and I have been traveling full time now for over a year and we get it. We know how hard it can be and you simply nail it. You do all the excursions, you challenge yourself, you make the most of your time and really 'get in there' to help people feel confident with how to do it themselves. Especially for single female travelers – which my wife was many years ago, before the internet and only armed with a lonely planet guide. The point of my post is to give you the praise for the work you have so clearly worked hard for and acknowledge that you have a true gift for this and encourage you to keep at it because you have a lot of well earned fans.

  6. Nice video 😊 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year πŸŽ„πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

  7. From one curly haired surfer to another. Half up half down is the only way it works out of your face in a bun thing. Thr water weighs down your hair in anything else lol. Good luck!

  8. I think the first board is like a SUP board. They're harder to tip over as they're pretty wide. So they're nice to get a feel for the waves without constantly having to have perfect balance:)

  9. Did you lose an earring whilst surfing? If not I’m loving the 2 different sized earrings, iconic πŸ˜‚

Also, your hair looks amazing on the second day from those braids!!!!

  10. Hey girl! Love your vlogs πŸ™‚ I am also someone who's been learning surfing while traveling and I have a few tips for you that really helped me and my friends transition from that beginner to intermediate stage:
    – never look down and always look where you want to go, the board will follow
    – relax and breathe, the more relaxed your stance the easier it will be to hold balance
    – don't do that bouncing thing, it's called pumping and that is how a lot of instructors will explain it to you, but you will only be doing that while riding the white water and it's not a good habit to have when you move on to bigger waves. There you will be either just following the line or going up and down the wave and bouncing like that will be completely useless
    – if you feel like you're loosing speed, put more weight on the front foot
    – learn how to turn well before you move on to surfing green waves, it will be imensly helpful in making a bottom turn after the drop on steeper waves or immediately going left or right on softer waves
    – try not to get frustrated if you have a day where you just can't catch any waves, it happens to everyone (still learning that one myself)
    And some safety stuff too:
    – never let go of your board unless you're completely sure there's no one behind you – in a lot of countries it's a big criminal offence if your board hits someone and you can go to jail for it (it's basically treated the same way as hitting someone with a golf club or a bat)
    – never hold your board in the water by the leash or the leash strap, if a stronger wave comes this can cause a dismemberment of your hand (basically your finger will go with the board while the rest of you doesn't)
    – never turn your back on the waves unless you're ready to catch one

And most importantly – have fun! πŸ™‚ I hope this helps and you continue your journey with surfing, it's such an awesome sport πŸ˜€

  11. Hi πŸ˜‰ great stuff with surfing! Your trip looks like so much fun πŸ˜‰
Re: langostinos and gamberones… In mainland Spain they are 2 different species,
Gamberones are big prawns but with no pincers
langostinos are the ones with pincers (they look like mini lobsters, with similar tail and underneath) πŸ™‚

  12. My favourite youtuber! Love this South America series so far! I visited El Salvador a few months before covid and I really enjoyed my time there (though it was only for a week). I went to Montecristo national park which was my highlight, I saw a puma which my tour guide said was quite rare. I'm sure you will love/loved your time there!

  13. @Backpacking Bananas Great video! Hope you enjoyed the beach & surfing lessons meanwhile you were there? πŸ˜€Low key jelly you had some sushi!!

  14. I wonder what you wear under the wetsuit? Just your bikini? I'm going surfing soon for the first time and have no idea lol

  15. Hi Christianne, why did you choose Colombia next? What did you not like about Ecuador? All the best and have fun!

  16. Schrimp in Spanish from Spain are called "gambas", however in South American language are called camarones. Langostinos, however, are like big gambas, dont really know if there's a word in English for that πŸ™‚

  17. Loved this video! You looks super cool when you surf, I’m going to India soon for a two and a half month long trip and I might be able to surf in Goa and this video has made me more excited! I hope you go to India one day it’s a wonderful country, you must visit both the north and south as well as city and country to get a proper experience!

  18. What a fun time! It looks like your surfing was pretty good for how long its been for you. I'm impressed!
