The Sky Lagoon – a little insider tip for Reykjavik, Iceland. It is less known than the Blue Lagoon – mainly because it was opened only at the end of April 2021. It is located much closer to Reykjavik, only about seven kilometers away in Kársnes Harbour in the village of Kópavogur. The Blue Lagoon, on the other hand, is almost 50 kilometers from Reykjavik, and about 20 kilometers from Keflavik Airport.

The water in Sky Lagoon has a temperature of over 30 degrees and is heated with geothermal energy. Unlike the milky geothermal water in Blue Lagoon, the water in Sky Lagoon is crystal clear.

From the Sky Lagoon’s infinity pool, you also have a view across the sea to the snow-covered Snæfellsjökull, which lies a little distance away. In Jules Verne’s novel “Journey to the Middle Pole of the Earth,” the volcano serves as an entrance to the earth’s interior. The view from the sauna with its huge panorama window is in the same direction.

The Sky Lagoon spa offers a unique seven-part ritual for revitalization, which utilizes all of the facilities available. The steps are as follows:
Bask in the geothermal waters of the Sky Lagoon’s outdoor pools.
Take a dip in the cold-water glacial pool.
Spend 10 minutes in the sauna overlooking the sea.
Step into a cold fog mist.
Rub down a body wash using the Sky Lagoon’s own scrub.
Enjoy the steam room.
Shower off, and return to the lagoon.

The Sky Lagoon’s Seven-Step Ritual in more detail:
Experience Icelandic Bathing Culture
Blessed with geothermal heating and a stunning landscape, the Icelanders have long come to warm pools for relaxation and connection. Over the centuries, we’ve developed a way to combine the healing powers of warm water, cold water, warm steam, dry heat and fresh air. We use our traditions to integrate these natural elements to promote our wellbeing, inside and out. We’re proud to share this with you at Sky Lagoon.

STEP 1
Embraced by the soothing lagoon
Welcome! It’s time to settle in. Relax in the lagoon, breathe in the refreshing air. The first stop on this journey is the healing warm geothermal waters of the Lagoon. Take it all in.

STEP 2
Invigorated in a glacier-fresh pool
Boost your happiness with cold therapy. Wander in the fresh Icelandic air. Or if you’re brave, take a quick dip in the cold plunge. It’ll stimulate your immune system, increase blood flow in the body and tighten skin. A natural high!

STEP 3
Amazed by the endless sea and sky
After a cold awakening, visit the sauna for 5 to 10 minutes. Allow the heat to open pores, remove toxins and cleanse your skin. While the heat works its magic, enjoy breathtaking views through the largest single window in Iceland and the sensory treat of coastal aromas and acoustics.

STEP 4
Refreshed in an energizing mist
Next, balance the heat by stepping slowly through our cold fog-mist space. It’s stimulating and rejuvenating for mind, body and soul. Take a deep breath and refresh your senses!

STEP 5
Rejuvenated with a cleansing scrub
It’s time for re-invigoration. By applying our signature Sky Body Scrub, your skin will be exfoliated and glowing. Slowly and gently, feel the Sky Body Scrub improve how you feel, inside and out. This is the highlight of The Ritual. Feel the glow!

Sky Body Scrub contains almond oil and sesame seed oil. The other Scrub ingredients are: Maris Sal, Isopropyl Myristate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Parfum,Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate.

STEP 6
Warmed in a blanket of steam
Steam will once more open your skin, allowing it to absorb the key therapeutic elements of The Ritual and maximizing the hydrating benefits of the Sky Body Scrub. Moist warmth eases your breathing and improves overall body function. Open up and feel clean and clear.

STEP 7
Cleansed in a pure, gentle shower
Finally, close your eyes, feel the results and enjoy the moment! From head to toe, inside and out, you’ll feel relaxed, rejuvenated and energized. Slow down and enjoy it!
