A walkthrough of one of the 6 “special rooms” (特別室) at Kinsuikan (錦水館), a boutique luxury ryokan located just a stone’s throw away from Itsukushima-jinja Shrine (厳島神社) and the world famous Torii Gate (鳥居.)
The special rooms were newly built in 2021 and 2022, and offer several advantages, which include:
– Both dinner and breakfast served in one’s own room
– Meals are higher grade than the ones served to guests in other rooms
– In-room mineral bath with views of the Seto Inland Sea
While “Aoi” was fresh and modern, with power and USB ports everywhere, it’s worth noting that it was only 42m² in size, as are all of the “special rooms.” Some of the regular rooms can be much larger, and are more traditional, which might appeal to some.
The other drawback is the fact that the bath in the room is not true Onsen that comes straight from the source. The mineral properties actually come from the rocks in the bath itself, rather than it being true Hot Springs water. The communal bath is hot springs, however. This is also the case at nearby Iwaso ryokan.
In my opinion, this is far superior to Iwaso, even if Iwaso is more historic and does have its charms.
