To create this Iraq series, I teamed up with my guides at Bil Weekend (https://www.instagram.com/bilweekend/ | https://bilweekend.com/) and my good friend and fellow travel filmmaker Tasos Karantakos (https://www.instagram.com/agreeksolo).

With a new day in Mosul, Iraq dawning, I set out to explore the Nabi Yunus Bazaar and have some breakfast.

QEEMA: Our first dish was qeema, a rich chickpea stew with a bit of beef bone marrow containing curry powder, cumin, za’atar, garlic powder, and pomegrate syrup. It’s served with samoon bread and is extremely flavorful!

MAKHLAMA: Next was a mix of beef and intestines with tomatoes and eggs, served with samoon bread. On the side, the vendors gave us falafel, fried eggplant, pickles, olives, fried potatoes, and Arabic coffee.

FALAFEL: The falafels were very soft in the middle, almost like they weren’t completely done, but I loved them that way!

KNAFEH: A delicious Middle Eastern sweet that has a delicious, crispy crust and a sweet, cheesy, creamy filling.

AL-NOURI MOSQUE: A 12th-century mosque that was a symbol of Mosul until ISIS came in and destroyed it. The United Arab Emirates is funding the UNESCO project to restore the mosque to its former glory.

  8. Very well done. What a busy and hectic market. The atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming. Nice, fresh food too. Too bad and sad what ISIS did to the country, but happy to see the buildings being restored. One question: where are the women? In all or most of the videos, I see men. Aren't the women allowed out to mix with the male population. 🤔. Anyway, well done.🇹🇹🇨🇦

  11. As I stated in the previous Video's comment, it is an amazing thing what you've been doing David. Sharing and showing the world how the people are and what they've been through. Mosul is one of four cities in my list to visit. The food, the history and people's kindness are obvious. Great Content.
