Takayama is a fun little, historic town located in the Japanese Alps and with a large morning market along the Migayawa River. Takayama was established over 300 years ago and Sanno-machi Historic District is a beautifully preserved old town.
Again, not enough time to really enjoy Takayama. Stop by the friendly Information Center on a Ekimae Chuo Street before doing anything for a walking map (in English).

And another place I have to visit in Japan, Sheila you are driving me crazy with all the beautiful places you are showing in your videos! It feels like a huge buffet where everything is awesome and you just can purchase one item a year. (This by the way is a very big compliment, phrased from a desperate traveller with lots of wanderlust 🙂 )
I want to go to Japan. This little town is darling. It seems to really show the culture there. I just love this video. Ill be going on a Viking Cruise in December "Heart Of Germany" and we will see the Christmas Markets and then on to Salzburg etc.,. I am thinking maybe a Spring trip to Japan next year would be nice. Assuming that is a good time to visit since you are there now!!
@Caroline Thompson Takayama is adorable (again, one hour was not enough time to do it justice) and I don't think there is a bad time to visit Japan since we were there in February. It just takes a long time to edit and upload the over 40 videos from a two-week trip in Hokkaido and Honshu. I know you will have a wonderful Viking Cruise; love Salzburg and sing "My Favorite Things…" etc., all through town. Fun, fun, fun… Best regards, Sheila
Sheila, I have been watching your videos for quite a long time and I thought "oh cool, another fellow Chicagoan"
Then I saw this video and thought "oh wow, she came to Takayama"
Takayama is where I have been living in Japan doing an international exchange program. Too bad I couldn't have been your tour guide.
