Japan Trip: Fresh Cheese and Ice Cream at the Furano Cheese Factory, Hokkaido 07
Visitors interested in cheese should visit the Furano Cheese Factory (富良野チーズ工房) in Hokkaido. The factory allows visitors observe how their local camembert type cheese is produced. Visitors are permitted to watch the process through large windows. In addition to watching the cheese making processing, visitors may sample various cheeses, including the squid ink black colored cheese produced at the factory.
The Furano Cheese Factory also has an ice cream parlor (“ice cream factory”) and a pizzeria (“the pizza factory”). The factory offers workshops for visitors to try their hand at making buttery, cheese, ice cream and bread.

*From Furano Station, the cheese factory is a 5 minute car or taxi ride.
*By Furano Kururu Bus Loop:
During the summer (from June 28th to August 10th), the red line of the Furano Kururu Bus can be used. The Furano Kururu Bus is a bus for tourists to see the town’s sights. There are four buses a day from Furano Station. The cost is 1000 yen for two calendar days of unlimited rides.
*Twinkle Bus Furano Sightseeing Bus
Visitors using the Twinkle Bus Furano sightseeing bus will have a chance to see the cheese factory in addition to other Furano tourist attractions. Reservations are required for the Twinkle Bus. The reservations can be made at any JR railway station in Hokkaido.
