This is such a beautiful story!!! I recently traveled to Laos, which in my opinion, is Asia’s Greatest Mystery. Nobody knows what’s happening in Laos, as it gets massively overlooked by its neighbors of Thailand and Vietnam.

While in Laos for my second visit, I had a goal to find the most remote tribe in the country — which led me to the Akha tribe. They live fascinating, remote lives up in the mountains and they have the most incredible traditional dresses. I actually had to take a domestic flight up North to a tiny town called Luang Namtha, and then drive 7 hours across a bumpy dirt road to find them. And yes, they really have never had a foreign visitor!

The Akha tribe lives on the border of China and Myanmar – that’s how remote I was! It was such a fascinating experience to spend a few days with them. I was pleased to discover that they are holding on to their traditions, even as modernization is slowly creeping in.

This is a story of family, happiness and FUN. Thank you for watching.

PS – this was supposed to be part 2 of my TRIBES series, but now it’s Part 1 because my South Sudan ‘Cow Tribe’ video got flagged and demonetized on YouTube. I’ll keep you posted on how/where you’ll be able to watch that video soon.

These tribe stories are my favorite, and they’re at my core of storytelling. I hope to do more of them in the future!

  1. This video is a special one! I’d love your feedback on “tribe” stories because I hope to do more of these into next year. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all!!!!

  2. 3:50 It is common for rural or mountain villagers to come to a centralized market to buy and sell vegetables every day. I am sure Binsky has seen this. He has been to South East Asia a lot and even to Laos. He just makes videos that tell some "story" but I cannot believe his comments are authentic. He is so amazed by a market and they "discovered" a "most incredible thing" and (3:20) "I couldn't believe my eyes". I call BS. I wish he would cut out the "I just discovered this thing for the first time" and "I've never seen such an amazing thing" and so many other things he does and says for the camera production project. Keep the unique footage and good content but leave out the fake comments and expressions please. Some good content is there but he makes every video such a production that everything seems half-staged (a comment for most of his videos the last couple of years, not just this one).

  3. Dude, drew is so jetlagged he's about to fall asleep standing up.

  4. I’m Lao and it’s really fun to dance,”the Lao dance” so I’m really glad that some people care about Lao people and Especially Americans, you know why I said that “here search up”(the secret war) it’s really sad what Americans did to Laos

  5. Drew I always appreciate it your modesty when it comes to the people and their cultures. But I especially appreciate your modesty when it came to the rat! Thank you for all the wonderful videos and all the work that you do. You have allowed me to travel around the world even though I cannot leave Georgia USA

  6. Love how you always immerse yourself in the local culture. I never thought I'd eat rat but watching you be so open to it makes me think i've gotta trust the locals

  7. *Investing in crypto now should be in every wise individuals list, in some months time you'll be ecstatic with the decision you made today.*❤️💯🔥

  8. Sorry but there’s no way that guy doesn’t sleep. People literally hallucinate and die eventually if they don’t get any sleep.

  9. 11:28 That man's hat is perhaps the best hat I had ever seen in my life.

God damn, when I tour, I should literally make it a quest to collect every traditional headwear I possibly can. It's amazing to collect traditional stuff.

  10. Looks like the province in the philippines. They also love to karaoke, dancing and drinking.

  11. This was awesome. As a Hmong-American who’s never visited Asia, your video described to me all the ways that Hmong and Akha(sp?) intersect culturally. The music, drinking, clothing, house construction, agriculture, all are very similar except for the language. There’s a whole world out there that behave like my parents 😂 I say that with love!

  12. I barely know how to speak thai but its pretty cool being able to tell the similarities between the thai and laos language

  13. come to Kyrgyzstan Drew here are lots of thing to see and places to visit, incredible nature hidden from the world.

  14. What you are talking about isn’t evolution, and it can be stopped. This is the modern world forcing itself on those who try to avoid it. Look at the situation in the rain forests of South America, and how hard they try stay away from the invaders. Calling this evolution is dangers, and whilst likely not on purpose, uses a colonialist language. Forced integration isn’t integration. Support Survival International.

  15. Love your videos, Drew but I disagree with your views on the unavoidability of globalization as described at the end. I have picked up on a tone in your videos not dissimilar to the narratives being discussed by Klaus Schwab & the self named “New World” types. I sincerely hope that they are not influencing your content decisions. The organic authenticity of your channel is why so many are drawn to the stories you so beautifully capture. Cheers!
