View from “Asama” super express train (Shinkansen) going from my hometown (Nagano) to Tokyo. You can see the scenery changes as the train goes by populated areas. The travel takes approx. two hours.
Contrary to a popular belief, Japan is NOT packed with factories and buildings. Most of the land consists of forests, farms and rice fields. Nagano prefecture is located at the center of the main island, about 300km away from Tokyo. It is also a very mountainous place. The train passes by dozens of tunnels in order to get through 2,000m-class mountains.
This train is named after Mt. Asama, a volcano which you can see in this video around 4:20. It’s been notoriously dangerous and erupted every couple of hundred years in the recorded history. When the sky is clear you might be able to see smoke coming out from the mountain top.
