These are all interesting spots; I haven't come across anything like this during the weeks I've spent in Tokyo… it probably helps if you can read the Kanji at the entrance to tell what the store is. My local Mall introduced a self-serve store; there are cameras in every corner, but otherwise, it works how you would expect. Select the item, go to the self-checkout, and pay. The self-serve konbini you showed reminds me of Amazon's attempt at a grocery store. Its worth looking into if you're interested.

  3. Saves on having to pay staff…Reminds me of the honour system in roadside farm stands where they leave out produce and have a moneybox

  5. I love how prices everywhere seem so convenient. 100 Yen for this, 600 Yen for that. Not $16.78 + sales tax like here in the States 😅
