quite a few airlines flying to Japan from LAX…. is there THAT many Japanese people going back?

  1. The Haneda bound ANA/DAL ones, the AC is mixed of Americans and Japanese. A lot more than previous years with the stronger yen
    On Narita bound ones, a lot more Asians connecting to other South East Asia and North Asia countries. Japan seems to be a very good strategic stopover for transpacific flights connecting to other points in Asia, especially since non-stop ones like the old BKK-LAX on A345 got too expensive with fuel price increases the past few years

  3. A lot of people going to Asia connect in NRT before traveling to their final destination. That explains much of the traffic.

  4. I was referring to TG 795, the discontinued A345 direct BKK-LAX service
    TG 692 is the current BKK-ICN-LAX service that replaced it

  5. The other reason is that United and Delta have bases in Narita and Haneda for their forward passengers,also other Asian Airlines refuels mostly at Tokyo's Narita
