To put it succinctly, it’s depressing after traveling so far to encounter monsoon-like conditions that literally throws a “wet blanket” – yuck-yuck, on the sights. Yakusugi Land did have it’s own special misty beauty but it’s a wonder that my camcorder didn’t give up the ghost in all the rain.

The oldest tree on Yakushima has been dated to 3,000 years old and many trees have trunks wider than a car! There are 30, 50, 80 and 150 minute trains for visitors, all excellently marked. The 80 and 150 are considered to be mountain climbing paths (they ARE) – narrow and slippery – consider yourself warned.

An experience sums it up…

  1. It's a shame it was such a rainy day, but watching this video shows that there's a certain beauty to the rain and mist of the forest.  Thank you for sharing this with us.
