愛知県 足助城と香嵐渓の紅葉絶景！ / Autumn Leaves at Asuke Castle and Korankei Gorge, Aichi, Japan

愛知県にある「足助城」と「香嵐渓」の紅葉絶景をご紹介します！

■足助城 ( 11月中旬～下旬 )
足助城（あすけじょう）は、愛知県足助町の真弓山（まゆみやま）にあった戦国時代の山城で、山頂の標高は301ｍで、別名・真弓山城とも呼ばれましたが、現在は「城跡公園足助城」として整備・公開されています。戦国時代の山城を忠実に再現していることが特徴で、質素な本丸と長屋、物見やぐら、防備だけの柵など、戦国時代の砦の雰囲気を感じられる、貴重な史跡公園です。

戦国期に徳川家康が足助城を攻めて、支配下に置いた後、家康の関東移封にともなって廃城となったそうです。
紅葉名所として名高い香嵐渓や足助市街が眼下に一望でき、足助城高櫓付近からは、素晴らしい紅葉絶景を満喫できます。

■香嵐渓 ( 11月中旬～下旬 )
香嵐渓（こうらんけい）は、愛知県東部を流れる巴川がつくる渓谷で、飯盛山（いいもりやま）を中心に巴川の両岸が約4,000本のカエデで覆われ、東海地方随一の紅葉名所として知られており、「日本の紅葉百選」に選定されています。

江戸時代初期の寛永11年（1634年）に足助にある香積寺（こうじゃくじ）の三栄和尚が、巴川から香積寺に至る参道にカエデやスギの木を植えたのが始まりとされ、また、飯盛山中にあるモミジは、大正～昭和のはじめにかけて、森林公園をつくるために、青年団・婦人会などの奉仕作業で植え足されました。

約4,000本ものモミジが一斉に紅葉色に染まる景色は圧巻で、特に巴川の対岸から望む飯盛山とモミジの景色は素晴らしいです。
また、巴川の両岸に整備された遊歩道の散策もオススメですが、飯盛山にある香積寺の参道から見下ろす景色も格別です。香積寺は、室町時代（1427年）に創建された曹洞宗の古刹で、参道の階段の両側には、カエデや杉の木々が生い茂げり、赤・橙・黄・緑の色彩のグラデーションを楽しめます。

■Asuke Castle ( Mid to late November )
Asuke Castle, also known as Mayumiyama Castle, was a mountain castle of the Warring States period (1467-1615) located on Mayumiyama Mountain in Asuke Town, Aichi Prefecture, with a peak elevation of 301 meters. It is characterized by its faithful reproduction of a mountain castle of the Warring States Period, and is a valuable historical site park where visitors can feel the atmosphere of a fortress of the Warring States Period, with its modest main building, row houses, a watchtower, and fences for protection only.

Tokugawa Ieyasu attacked and took control of Asuke Castle during the Warring States period, The castle was abandoned when he was relocated to the Kanto region.
The park offers a panoramic view of Korankei Gorge, famous for its autumn leaves viewing spots, and the city of Asuke, and from the high turret of Asuke Castle, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the autumn leaves.

■Korankei ( Mid to late November )
Korankei, located in Asuke-cho, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, is a gorge formed by the Tomoegawa River, a tributary of the Yahagigawa River, and is nationally known as one of the best places for autumnal leaves in the Tokai region and has been selected as one of the “100 Best Autumn Leaves in Japan”.

It is said that San’ei, a monk of Koujakuji Temple in Asuke, started planting maple and cedar trees along the approach to Koujakuji Temple from Tomoe River in 1634 in the early Edo period.

The maple trees in Mt. Iimori were planted during the Taisho and early Showa eras by youth groups and women’s groups in order to create a forest park.

The view of about 4,000 maple trees all turning red at once is breathtaking, and the view of Mount Iimori and maple trees seen from the other side of Tomoe River is especially wonderful.

A walk along the promenade on both banks of the river is also recommended, but the view down from the approach to Kojakuji Temple on Mount Iimori is also exceptional.

Kojakuji Temple, an ancient temple of the Soto sect of Buddhism, was founded in 1427 (Muromachi Period), and the steps along the approach are lined with maple and cedar trees, which create a beautiful gradation of colors of red, orange, yellow, and green.
