Today we took a 4 hour train ride to Hakodate from Sapporo. It was a long ride, but filled with spectacular views!
Upon arrival we continued straight towards Goryokaku fortress. A fortress that was built in a western style and was the set of one of the final battles between the Shogunate supporters and the Imperial forces. From there we went to Hakodate mountain to catch a glimps of one of Japan’s three famous night view spots, the rest being in Kobe and Nagasaki. After being taken aback by the magnificence of the view, we checked in our hotel- Pension Jokura (extremely recommend) and took an evening stroll around the Motomachi area, famous for the European style structures that were built during the 19th century.
