For 15 years, The Grizzly at California’s Great America has been ranked the “Worst Wooden Roller Coaster in the World.” We rode it in 2013 and didn’t think it was all that bad! we’ve certainly been on way worse. What do you think? Filmed & Edited by Robb Alvey – www.themeparkreview.com

  1. This is almost a mirror image of the Kings Dominion Grizzly, except the KD version adds a nice airtime hill after the first turnaround, followed by a tunnel passing UNDER the track after the second inclined turnaround. This version reverses which track goes over which at this point, and in the process removes two high-speed airtime sections.

I am sure there are a lot of worse coasters, but I think the KD version is better.

  2. Alright time for my experiences as a home Parker:
Please please please RMC this CGA we need this, this hunk of junk is literally taking up a huge amount of space we could have been using for way better stuff. There’s no purpose for it, especially because it’s not that expensive, or at least less expensive than that hyper we’ve been waiting for, this was a lot of people first big coaster, but gold strikers mine so I have no nostalgia for it. Oh yeah did I mention THESE DISPATCHES ARE LITERALLY THE SLOWEST IVE EVER SEEN, okay I haven’t ridden much coasters but I have more credits than the average person, so one day not to long ago, me and my lil sis we’re bout to get on grizzly right at closing so it was around 7 when we got in line, it was literally 8:10 when we left, and they literally only dispatched 3 trains THREE! Like how I’m honestly so confused like when you’re waiting to be dispatched it doesn’t seem like that long but for a dispatch to be as long as this one it’s unbelievable. A back row ride is extremely forceless, GP me did a keep a straight face challenge and I aced it, even me as a GP was not impressed by this. Please RMC please

  3. I first rode the grizzly in 1980 and in 2021 I'm sure it's still rides the same terrible as ever ! Remember the 1950s and 60s roller skates made out of steel ! When going down the hill and if they hit anything skates would stop and you would go flying Landing didn't always turn out very good ! When the rubber came out in the 70s for the wheels skateboards was the way to go !

  4. I grew up riding this coaster and now my kids ride it too. I have always loved it and so do my kids. It may not be the best but it is definitely not the worst. It is fun and a good starter coaster for kids. Boo to those giving it such a bad rap!

  5. Not trilling at all. Boring and especially noticeable when compared to Gold Striker

  6. I remember going on this ride when I was a kid. I thought the layout was kinda boring and forceless, but I wouldn't call it the worst woodie in the world.

  7. it’s a great starter coaster for kids and people who want to get over their fear of roller coasters

  8. Watch the pov for Hellcat, this coaster is nowhere near as bad as that horrendously rough coaster is, no comparison

  9. The Grizzly is actually a decent coaster. It's nothing as fast as say Gold Striker (which Ive never been on) but it certainly is much smoother and more fun in my opinion than even the extremely old classic Big Dipper at Santa Cruz Boardwalk. And it certainly is better than that piece of hit at Marine World, or Discovery Kingdom, whatever its called now. They have a wooden one that gave me a concussion, I never felt the same after that coaster after just one ride for a few days. Thats the WORST coaster in the world in my opinion..ROAR was the name of it, but I guess it now has steel tracks and is called Joker or something. Haven't been on it since its transition since it hurt so much.

  10. It's not a terrible coaster. It could be used as a nice cooldown coaster, where you ride something more exciting like Gold Striker then use this for some easy fun and let the adrenaline calm down for another ride.

  11. Why was this called the WORST coaster? Ive seen worse, and they were short rides, slow, bumpy, and wild.
    This was decent.
It was a decent speed, no whipping your bones around, and it wasnt to short, or to long. It seemed smooth.
This would be considered a step up from a kiddie land coaster.
    Thanks.

  12. As going on this coaster when i was young, i loved this and always went on it. But I do not know how people would rank it the “worst” coaster.

  13. I remember when it was new and it felt so broken. It's selling point was that it would beat the hell out of you. The fear factor was not about it being an intense design but the feeling that something was about to break or collapse at any moment. It's like the track moved more than the cars did. You could see it rattle from ground level with the only saving grace being the bulk of cables barely keeping it centered. If anything, they over-maintained it and made it too smooth as time went by.

  14. It can't be the worst rollercoaster in the world if multiple kids are screaming "that was awesome!"
Great America is my home park, I've ridden this roller coaster 100 times. In the 90s this ride felt like it had square Wheels. It was pretty bad. Sometime in the mid-2000s they did some sort of a refurbishment and now it feels like a wooden coaster should. Much better

  15. Could use some airtime hill enhancements, but kiss it good-bye. Cedar Fair just sold the land. No concrete word yet on when the park will close. 6 to 11 years, speculation so far.

  16. defininetly the most boring coaster i've ever ridden, demon being a close second. If you're going to great america and looking for actual thrills, you're better off just riding gold striker, rail blazer, and flight deck. patriot is okay at best, demon and grizzly are just flatline. good if you have a kid thats scared of coasters though. i can see them being easy jump off points.

  17. me and my friends are going to great america soon and i'm terrified they will lead me to some rlly intense rides lol

  18. Yeah. It's not very good. Slow. Small hills with no air time. Good first drop but other than that, not very good. Just my opinion.

  19. I went on the ride I think it was the first drop or second and my head was facing down

  20. Grizzly, the clone of wildebeast at Canadas Wonderland. Not bad of wooden coasters as long as uour prepared for the bumpyness
