Welcome to Japan Photo Explore, where we travel to and photograph extraordinary places. Its winter, and in this episode I am in Mombetsu, on the island of Hokkaido, Japan. During an overnight stay, Mombetsu is hit with a snowstorm is so severe, that all roads out of the city are closed. I can’t leave, so do I stay in the warmth of my hotel or do I go out to take photos in a snowstorm?

Fascinating story to watch Nick, from the comfort of my home in Brisbane Australia. Where it is summer and warm all year round. I enjoyed the way you explained how you go about finding images on the street, looking for the light then the background then the action in the foreground. I certainly felt I had a better understanding of how local people get about of necessity in this kind of weather. I really enjoyed this episode with its focus on the photography and far less on the travel itself. although it’s a cracker of an explanation about how you ended up marooned there! I look forward to seeing some of your Greek adventures.
I have been living in Hokkaido(Sapporo) for the last 4 years. Sometimes I also tried to take photos in winter. But, they way you documented the environment of Hokkaido and captured the moment of this frozen beauty, is not only fascinating but also inspiring to me to see again with new eyes. After watching every videos of "Japan Photo Explore" I felt more enthusiastic than before to hold the camera in my hand with new excitement and capture the frozen world.
