I was a NWA pilot from 1966 untill 1997 . This was an excellent explanation of the history crammed into 15 min. You did excellent research and covered many points others have missed. Great job. Will watch for more of your work .
I remember when i was a kid my family and i flew to narita in 2008. I saw so many nwa planes there and thought that it was a japanese carrier. I asked my dad if those were japan airlines planes and he said they were northwest airlines, a US airline. At the time i wondered why a US based airline had such a big presence in japan

While Northwest stayed current with the times Delta was outmaneuvered by its competition in America as they partnered with joint ventures in Japan and Delta was late and left out in the cold. Now associated with Korean Air that is where they are focused now, which makes sense for them at this point.
What a fantastic video!! I was an NWA flight attendant from 1995 thru 1997 and flew JFK-NRT a lot and also had 2 trips to HKG. I also took NW as part of a solo trip when I was 18 in 1989 and stopped in HNL, ITM on the way to BKK. After staying in Osaka to visit friends, I got to fly NW to Narita and on to Bangkok. Was definitely cool to take NW on that short flight within Japan. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
I was never really too fond of Narita International when traveling to Japan. Unless you were staying in a hotel in Narita- adding a hour or longer train ride after a long flight from overseas was pretty grueling, especially if you were trying to connect at Haneda or catch a bullet train in Tokyo, etc. I only got the chance to fly with Delta out of Haneda once, well into the pandemic, and it seems like the proximity to domestic connections, hotels, and the city will make flying to Tokyo much more attractive. Here's to a bright future for Delta at Haneda! 🔺🛬🗼
Excellent video and if I remember correctly Northwest airlines did offer Allentown Pennsylvania to Manila Philippines via Detroit and Tokyo Narita airport. Regional Jet Allentown Detroit B747-400 Detroit Michigan Tokyo Narita airport Manila. On the return trip you clear CBP in Detroit then RJ85 Emb 145 does the NWA Airlink Detroit to Allentown,PA However you actually arrive during the rush hour 3 PM which means it take 45-60 minutes to travel US-22 East from Lehigh Valley Airport to Delaware River Bridge mile marker 337.9. Do that on DL these days you take Allentown Detroit Seoul Incheon for the Korean Air Flight Seoul to Manila/Cebu and Clark.
Was a passenger decades ago between MNL and DTW. It's either we took NWA72 from Manila to Nagoya, or NWA28 from Manila to Tokyo-Narita, then continued onwards to DTW. The trip back as well as either NWA71 or NWA27. Though I do like the DAL service best

I experienced flying from New York to Manila via Narita, as well as Manila to Detroit via Nagoya. I miss seeing the red tails.
