Today’s vlog finds us exploring the Gion area of Kyoto, and eating more food where we think we know what it is, but we’re wrong. We start at the Yasaka shrine and walk down through the Gion district, ending at the Kiyomizu-dera Temple just in time for sunset. Afterwards, we stop at a very local ramen restaurant for dinner! This was an amazing day in Kyoto!

  2. The three rice balls on a stick is mitarashi dango – rice dumplings essentially, in sweet soy sauce glaze.

Also, about sake (not saki), you pour and/or refill for each other but not yourself. You pour for your companion and then your companion pours for you.

  3. The thing you ate on a stick is called mitarashi dango, and the sauce is a sweet soy sauce. I never thought barbecue sauce when I eat it though LOL

  6. Welcome to Japan 😊Hi Bill & Heather I love you two 🥰💞.I love your videos. Amazing video 👍and very fun video.🤣🤣KI YO MI ZU DE RA Take4 🤣🤣🤣🤣 THANK YOU SO MUCH💝💝❤❤🌹🌹

  9. Key Yo Toe 🚫👎

    Kyo Toe ✅ 👍🏽

No worry it’s not just you most people mess this up.

Key Yo is correct for Kiyomizudera… notice the difference in spelling kyo vs kiyo.

Mitarashi Dango 🍡 is Mochi and Sweet Soy Sauce glaze.

One more and I’ll stop. It’s Saké 🍶as in Sah Kay not Sah Key 🔑

Great video, not trynna harsh your melon but I’d be a bad Japanese Major to not share 😇

  10. Hello! Thank you for the nice Kyoto tour. Enjoyed the street and surrounding scenery. Have a wonderful day. 😊

  11. Thanks for the great video❣During autumn leaf season , tree is lighted up beautifully at night(Night Special Opening Illumination of Fall Foliage and Buildings)🤩嵯峨野トロッコ列車(Sagano Romantic Train )宝厳院(Hogon-in Temple~12月4日)etc. It is beautiful and magical!!!また京都へいらっしゃった時、興味がありましたらぜひ行ってみてください🥰I'm not good at English, so I'm sorry if it is difficult for you to understand my English.

  12. Japanese students usually go to Kyoto in their second year of high school as a graduation trip. Kyoto is a city of cultural value, so students from all over Japan head there. Autumn is the most popular season, but students often visit in spring and other seasons. Most of them are in Osaka, Nara and Kyoto. There are also schools that go overseas or to Hokkaido.

  13. In Japan today, there is a financial subsidy from the government for travel support, so it may be a time when Japanese people move a lot. However, this seems to be less than usual.
