GAMDZANI, GEORGIA – Today we’re in Samtskhe-Javakheti southern region of Georgia, an area where Georgia, Armenia, and Turkey all come together. We’re meeting up with the nicest Armenian family who are preparing for us a huge Armenian feast – a barbecue on the picturesque side of the lake. You don’t want to miss any of the food, let’s start eating!

A huge thank you Kristo from Culinary Backstreets https://culinarybackstreets.com/ for taking me on this food tour today. They offer tours in cities around the world and if you use my code “migrationology10” you can get a discount on booking food tours.

So it was a couple of hours drive from Tbilisi, and it’s a totally different setting in Samtskhe-Javakheti. The mountains are gorgeous and green and the lifestyle is more relaxed with plenty of space. The specific village we visited was called Gamdzani and it’s mainly an Armenian village. Kristo had known this family and they run a restaurant and lodge called Family Corner (https://goo.gl/maps/gj73JxyuSK3zfE6b7). It’s truly a one of a kind mountain lodge where you can stay and eat family cooked Armenian food in Georgia. But instead of eating at the restaurant, they took the bbq and all the ingredients to the lake where they set up a huge lakeside Armenian bbq. There was over 13 types of kebabs and so many other side dishes as well, including dolma!

It was a meal and a setting in nature that I’ll never forget.

Again, thank you to Kristo and Culinary Backstreets for arranging – https://culinarybackstreets.com/ (code: migrationology10)
