Bull jumping is an ancient and cruel ceremony performed in the Hamer tribe. During this ritual, a young man who has reached the age of 18 becomes a man. The third part of the ceremony is the bull jumping. Villagers line up 5-10 bulls. A naked young man must run over the backs of the bulls 4 times in each direction, never falling. If he falls, he won’t be able to repeat the ceremony until a year later. At the end, family members cover the young man with manure, for good luck.
