Quick disclaimer: If you are wondering why Auntie is wearing two different coloured t-shirts, my battery died while I was taking the b-roll the morning I found her so I had to come back!

Today I want to show you why I love Bangkok, Thailand! We are heading to Charoen Krung Road in search of new Thai street food dishes and new adventures!

I stumbled across this unbelievable 48 year old street food cart and quickly got friendly with the legend that is Pa Waree (Auntie Water). She ran me through the dishes like we were old friends in the family kitchen!

I had:

Khao pad pla salid – Fried rice with gourami fish

Pad cha pladuk – Stir fried spicy catfish

Khao pad tom yum – Sour and spicy fried rice

Pad Pak Kanaeng Moo Krob – Stir fried sprouts with crispy pork

The whole meal came to 240 Baht, which is £5.60 / $6.65 🤯

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this YouTube channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!

I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.

If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

  1. that was really awesome Gary. I booked my trip to Thailand for 22 nights (17th March to 9th April) and I can't wait

  2. You're so right about just walking around and randomly finding a real gem in Bangkok. After trying your recommendations in Talat Noi, which were all fantastic, I started just wandering around on my own with no direction. Going up and down city blocks and back alleys finding awesome little food stalls with locals all sharing a common interest, good food.
I would consistently clear out kitchens (everyone except the cook) after ordering my phet phet dishes. I typically sit at the back of restaurants so I would see a wave of customers coughing before the chili fumes would eventually reach me. 🤣
