Join us Daniel and Yuka as we give you a heads-up of what it was really like on our arrival to Tokyo, Japan in October 2021 to be tracked for 14 days while in home quarantine… Home quarantine in Japan was awesome, and went super quickly!

We’ll also share what our experience was with the MySOS application – the mandatory app install that allowed us to be tracked by the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare…

  1. I just returned from a 3 week stay in Paris. Nothing in the world could have prepared me for the Inferno that is the re-entry process at Haneda. A soul-drenching 2 hour, 1.5 km, 12 checkpoint, 5 ml saliva sample, multi-document, two QR code, 2 app, 2 Covid test, multiple passport show and tell "trail of sweat and tears" ordeal. It reminded me of the checkpoints on the old Edo period roads which were designed to regulate movement between the various domains. Japan still has so many feudal elements to it. Passport at every junction and the walk between the checkpoints was long with "samurai" everywhere, the longest being right before you hit immigration. An entire wing of the airport devoted to the re-entry process separated by what seemed like one-kilometer long corridor.

The process in Paris? 15 minutes once you show your Pass Sanitaire and passport. Hardly a warrior retainer in sight.

I was unable to produce 50 ml of saliva despite photos of a cut lemon and umeboshi to ogle. The Japanese are amazing. They were given the vial, went "spitoozie!" and went on their way. It took me over 10 minutes to produce enough saliva and even then I fell 2 mm short of the red line but the girl felt sorry for me after I showed her what I had produced 5 times. The pay must be good to get to look at people's saliva all day long.

Immigration was another surprise with 2 officers, one to double check what had already been double checked several times already. And then the locked door to baggage claim which required the person in command to actually come out of the booth to unlock it. It was like the scene from the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy opens the door to Munchkinland in Technicolor. International tourists will not be returning to Japan anytime soon once this gets out on social media, and only the hardiest, determined, and wealthy Japanese nationals will dare cross the border.

  2. Hi. I know this is a few months old but I have a question, if you don't mind. My wife will be flying into Japan in January and she is concerned about how to get to her quarantine location. It seems that, for the first three days, the government will put her up in a hotel. After that, she has to self-quarantine for 12 days. She would like to rent a weekly mansion or perhaps airbnb. My question is, how will she get to the airbnb? Are you allowed to take trains or taxis to get there? How did you get to yours?

  3. Can you help me I have enter japan but mistakenly,I again scanned the sos qr and I register again and it is not showing check in,I am here and report your condition. What should I have to do, it is saying only pre registration help me sir

  4. Thanks a lot for the video, my wife is japanese and I am a mexican and we live in mexico, we are planing to go to japan this dec 2022, I think is posible for me to enter japan because we are going to visit my wife’s family in japan, also I have a daughter. But I was curious about this MySoS app, after finishing the quarantine, can I uninstall the app? Can I go anywhere after finishing the quarantine or I have to keep installed the app so they can track my location?
