I finally made it to COTA around 4:00pm and started setting up camp as quickly as possible. This is a long, slow video, so skip to the end of the description for clickable time indexes.
It’s late afternoon, and I’m getting hangry (hungry-angry). The COTA dry camping grounds are packed full of motorhomes, car campers, truck campers, and moto-campers. I managed to find a relatively quiet spot, and I started to unpack around 4:15pm. I’m rushing to get camp set up quickly, so I can head out for a very late lunch. I’m also trying to hurry because I don’t know when the weather is going to turn against me. The forecast showed storms sometime around 8:30pm, but it didn’t really hit until almost midnight.
Setting up camp today was much longer than normal because the Super Cub is an attention magnet! Everyone loves it and wants to stop by and chat about the bike… it’s a real conversation starter. I met dozens of really nice people that were very enthusiastic about the Cub, and they were all in complete disbelief that I actually rode it from Houston to Austin! Their expressions were priceless! It seems that everyone has forgotten how to take it slow and easy on smaller bikes… everyone is fixated on bigger, faster… hurry, hurry, hurry these days.
There was a lot more talking and camaraderie, so the tent and camp setup took a while. I finally cut to the end pictures of the completed camp setup with a tent, tarp, and a complete DRIVE-IN MOVIE THEATER! The theater kit consists of:
– Anker Nebula Capsule projector
– Nebula tripod
– 60″ rollable/foldable vinyl projector screen
– tent guy lines with tensioners
– (4) short bungee hooks to keep the screen taut and allow some wind flexibility without tearing anything
I was able to stream a new movie (“Ant-Man and the Wasp”) from Netflix via my cellular hotspot, and also an hour or so of my YouTube channel content for people that were interested in the channel. Unfortunately, I had to tear down the theater and tarp around midnight when the wind really kicked up… the 30+ mph wind gusts were straining the tarp lines and threatening to break things (again). It’s good that I took things down when I did because doing it later would have been a real problem… the weather turned really nasty. The storms that blew through Austin that weekend were part of the same system that spawned deadly tornadoes throughout the south-central and eastern US states. The rain blew out around 1:30-2:00pm the following day, but the wind never died down… it was a real challenge!
Time indexes:
0:00 : I finally made it to COTA, and the dry camping area is almost completely full!
2:10 : Setting up the Goal Zero Sherpa 100 power pack for charging batteries
3:25 : Let the unpacking begin… the DrySpec D38 holds a LOT of gear
4:45 : The first of many Super Cub admirers arrives… the Cub starts conversations everywhere
9:45 : Lost my rhythm… where was I?
13:20 : Setting the ground cloth and tent, staking everything down for wind resistance
21:00 : Another neighbor stops by to help me set up camp and to chat… he just finished an Iron Butt 1500 today… WOW!
31:15 : Let the disbelief begin… people can’t believe that I actually rode the Super Cub from Houston to Austin
36:20 : Finally setting up my chair, which is usually the first item that I unpack… I’m off my rhythm today
38:00 : Realizing that I left 8 tent stakes at home… CRAP!
38:40 : Unpacking the GSI aluminum camp table
40:50 : Unpacking the roll-top camp table
41:00 : Another neighbor stops by to talk about the Super Cub
44:05 : A little shameless QuasiMotard channel promotion
52:00 : The talking continued for a while, so I cut to the final setup with pictures of the full camp deployment and the DRIVE-IN THEATER in action!

I never tell to anyone, whats all in my bags. Also I don´t tell, what I all have at home.
If you look rich, they expect more in your bags.
I try to look poor, to not get any trouble. ie robbery.
Even my house looks ugly and a poor owner. This is a good protection.
The people looks ok, to trust them. But I really trust Nobody new found on the road. (Ok, I´m too scary.)
75.000 germans are resident at the spanish isle Mallorca.
A german lawyer told, that 50 % of them steal and lie to other germans coming.
They all friendly, but you cannot trust at all.
Greetings from sw germany. Don´t worry, I am a good one. (44 years of motorcycling.)
I full respect the property of others.
A mobile beamer is a good idea to entertain you.
And to introduce others, to have a good time together.
Thanks for the update I’m getting more miles under my belt on my cub as we speak! We’re getting low 70s up here in the upper Midwest! I’ve got an idea of a good video for you ….do one of your stable of BIke’s And Projects! Take care and safe travels my friend
great videos. learning from you.
If you ever make a ridding group let me know. I ride a pcx150.
I remember when I bought my ZRX1100 back in '01…somebody on a forum was like, "Best bike in the world if you like talking to random middle-aged dudes." I think it's met its match…
What chair is that. I am trying to put together a moto camping setup and the chair is tough to find.
I had to subscribe, I have a monkey and I love it , I love seeing you putting that cub to good use ..btw you're personality is awesome
Lol, you stunned both of them at 52:39 lmao
looks like an awesome road trip!
Hi sir ! How much for this bike ?
I had one of these when I was backpacking through Cambodia, best time of my life met lots of great people and will never forget.
Hi . Back in 1968 my dad brought back from a trip to Germany a Berini M14. Bicycle assist motor. We mounted it to a vintage Columbia bike. It mounts on the front fork and the clutch is just pulling the motor off the front wheel with one of the brake levers. I laced up a drum brake for the front tire. It has coaster brake on the rear. 49cc and it does 18-20 mph. You say you like different…..its different. Can send pics if you like.
Ha ha ha. Always draw a crowd with a Cub road trip. You meet the nicest people…
Amazed at your packload. What a great ride!
In Tehas – with all of the pick-ups, would worry up about some miscreant snarfing up your bike.
My GoalZero stuff is just a tiny rig – been happy with their stuff.
You are a brother from another mother my friend. I just bought myself a Yamaha bws50 for my 65th birthday,I like slow and steady. Never mind the gas mileage. I’m in Medicine Hat alberta Canada. Rocky Mountains are just over there. Some great random camping in the mountains come summer..it’s too bad more of us couldn’t appreciate the scooter, small bore lifestyle, they are missing the boat. Anyhow, keep up the good work,be safe and enjoy your life. I sure am. Dean
Great video. Honda kicked Harley’s ass fair and square. All the anti-Japanese lip smacking in the 70s, 80s and 90s that I grew up on, is thankfully just nonsense talk now. My first bike was a used CB-400 Hawk. Great memories on that bike. I will never own a Harley.
Best way to see the country is touring with a scooter. The guys on Harleys were shocked at how much gas I used on my SYM HD200.
Can i ask something personal sir? Are you retired? Or what are you currently into? Because it seems you're having the best times of your life….
16 bikes in a stable???? Wow.. that's an amazing feat to me sir… because i only own one. A honda wave 110 alpha….
Love ur vids man..
Try Dairyland insurance, they specialize in motorcycle insurance. I found they are much cheaper. I really enjoyed your vid.
Motorcycles…. Connecting people for 120yrs! 😇
Man I just discovered your channel today. Thanks for introducing me to the Honda Super Cub. And you have so many videos. One more subscriber under your belt.
So many friendly people and not one walked up with beers? That's bad etiquette. I can't be the only one that walks up with a 24 can cooler.
You do make me laugh mate, entertaining stuff. London boy.
Love your videos. I am going to go look at a cub soon. Looks like a blast.
guess you do "Meet the nicest people on a honda" lol
I wish I had a bike, I would love to moto camp.
I definitely will, well when the apocalypse ends anyway lol
Man I love when take these moto trips, I learn so much.
One of our riders, from the FreeMasons Riding Club, was from Katy.
A movie theater to wow impressive… I was looking into buying the new Honda pcx 150 2020 would you recommend it? Thanks

I'd been on few moto trips in India. But camping is never an option. I wish camping like this would become prominent in India some day. Love your videos.
There are some interesting people such as yourself in the YouTube world, and a lot of them either sail yachts or ride two wheels of some description. At 75 years of age I decided sailing is probably off the bucket list, especially since I'm a long way from water. But those 2020 model CT 125 Hunter's sure are enticing . . . and remind me of my C70 of five decades ago.
16 bikes!? Power to ya. I make do with two, but I'd probably have a few more of I had the garage space. My Piaggio 125 for year round commuting, and my BMW F650 GS (in winter storage) for my long summer trips.
I'm sitting at home here, rain is pissing down outside, and I'm loving watching your videos, what brought me to your channel was the Honda super Cub youve convinced me that the bike is a good buy, so that's next thing on my bucket list to purchase, I have a camper van, and love getting away, and the bike I think is the ideal size to put in the back of my van and take away with me to cruise around the camping parks I will visit next year. great watching. Thank you.
Love all your videos
i just love the color of this bike.
Refreshing to watch a UTuber not over editing to keep the videos shorter for more views . Never compromise on your unique style mate.
Legend.
How many miles was your trip from home to here? I followed your part one…and it is very encouraging for sure! Cheers! BTW, as I stated on Part One comment, I own a 1,900 CC V-Twin…and nobody from my crowd is 'laughing' at my idea to have my 6'4" 250 pound frame running upon this rig. Not at $6.00 per gallon CDN, and going to climb higher each year with our jerk's Carbon Tax yearly ramp up. Nobody's laughing at me…for considering to about town with this bike. I just worry about how easy at 245 pounds, to be (yes, I know, you can try and chain it to a solid object) able to have it stolen from any parking spot, or outside the motel or hotel. That is my truly only concern to date…. My SVTC sits in at 998 lbs…so not to easy to 'coffin-walk' it away….and those folks who walked over to talk with you…I'm surprised that they first thing they DID NOT ask, was not how many ***MPG do you get***? 🙂
I like your solar set up. May I ask what brand it is?
I love all the questions and the doubt! Awesome vids! Thanks for sharing!🙏🏼🤗
I need to go sleep , but this little bike part 2 won't allow me to Damn ! there is a part 3 lmao
